Come to the Sankofa Center, home of the immigrant resource organization HOLA Lakeway, to spend time wth Baldemar Velásquez . Baldemar Velásquez is a powerful labor organizer, activist, and McArthur Award winner. He is an internationally recognized leader in the farmworker and immigrant rights movements. As president of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC), which he co-founded with his father in 1967, Velásquez set international precedents in labor history by unionizing and empowering the most marginalized workers in the country. His long-fought campaigns are inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King.
This event is organized in partnership with HOLA Lakeway and will feature a presentation from Baldemar as well as a workshop in which organizers can dialogue and problem solve with this master organizer. Lunch will be provided.
