Multicultural Creativity Workshops

(Ages 6+) Join us for a fun and interactive cultural workshop where kids can explore movement, teamwork, and creativity through the ancient tradition of Chinese Lion Dance. Dating back thousands of years, Lion Dance is performed at celebrations such as business openings, birthdays, weddings, and Lunar New Year festivities—and is believed to chase away bad luck and bring good fortune. Participants will learn basic movements and discover the unique character and cultural significance of the lion in an engaging, age-appropriate setting. No prior experience is needed, and the workshop is designed to encourage confidence, coordination, teamwork, and cultural appreciation.

(Ages 6+) Children will participate in a fun and engaging movement workshop introducing the ancient Chinese martial art of Kung Fu. Through guided activities and simple routines, participants will explore movements inspired by nature’s creatures, including the tiger for courage, crane for balance, leopard for alertness, snake for fluidity, and dragon for wisdom. The workshop encourages coordination, focus, and creative expression while highlighting how Kung Fu develops discipline, strength, focus, and self-control. Designed for all experience levels, the session promotes confidence, teamwork, and physical activity in a supportive, age-appropriate environment while offering an introduction to this rich cultural tradition.

Experience the rich traditions of Polynesian dance through an engaging introduction to both Tahitian dance and Hawaiian hula. Participants will learn about the history and cultural connections between these two art forms, exploring how movement, music, rhythm, and storytelling have been passed down through generations. The workshop features an introduction to energetic Tahitian drum dances and expressive Hawaiian hula, highlighting the unique styles, techniques, and traditions of each. Through guided instruction, participants will learn basic movements and discover how dance serves as a powerful way to preserve history, celebrate community, and share cultural stories. No prior dance experience is required, making this workshop welcoming and accessible for all ages and abilities.

Ages 7+ (Adults are welcome too!) Take an interactive journey into the origins of flamenco through storytelling, movement, and music. Participants will explore the cultural history of this expressive art form, tracing its influences across regions and learning about the traditions that shaped it. Through guided instruction, attendees will practice foundational flamenco movements, rhythmic clapping (palmas), and expressive arm techniques (braceo) while discovering how dance can tell a story. The workshop also includes a brief hands-on craft activity where participants create their own simple flamenco fan to use during the movement portion of the class. All craft materials are provided, and no prior dance experience is required.
