"A Whoville Christmas in Thomaston" 8th Annual Christmas Lights Parade Christmas is coming to downtown Thomaston—and this year, we're celebrating with a little Whoville magic! Join us for the 8th Annual Christmas Lights Parade, featuring beautifully decorated floats, festive vehicles, local organizations, community groups, businesses, and plenty of Christmas spirit as the parade makes its way through historic downtown Thomaston. Whether you're a Who from Whoville, a Whoville visitor, or just a Christmas lover, there's something for everyone! 🎄 **PARADE SCHEDULE** **4:00 PM–6:00 PM** 🎅 Santa at the Courthouse Bring the kids to visit Santa and get into the Christmas spirit before the parade! **4:00 PM–9:00 PM** 🍴 Specialty Food Vendors Enjoy delicious food and holiday treats around the Courthouse and at our local eateries throughout the evening. **3:00 PM–5:30 PM** 🚗 Parade Setup Parade participants should arrive during this window for setup. **5:30 PM–6:30 PM** 🏆 Parade Judging Floats and entries will be judged during this time. **7:00 PM** ✨ Christmas Lights Parade Begins! The parade will travel through downtown Thomaston. Come downtown, grab some Christmas goodies, visit Santa, enjoy the lights, and celebrate the holiday season with the Thomaston community!

Health & safety
Participant Safety Guidelines Follow all instructions from parade staff, police, and volunteers. Stay with your assigned parade group and remain in your designated lineup area until instructed to move. Do not enter the parade route until directed by parade officials. Maintain a safe distance between vehicles, floats, and other parade entries. All drivers must remain alert and drive at a safe, walking speed. No throwing candy or other objects from moving vehicles or floats. If distributing candy, participants should hand it directly to spectators or have designated walkers distribute it from the side of the route. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Participants should not climb on, off, or between moving vehicles or floats. Keep hands, feet, and other objects inside vehicles while moving. No alcohol or unsafe behavior is permitted in the parade lineup area or on parade entries. In the event of an emergency, stop and follow directions from emergency personnel.

Join us for Thomaston’s Christmas Lights Parade: A Whoville Christmas! We are looking for a limited number of specialty food vendors to help us create a festive food experience for parade attendees.

 

Food vendors will be located around the Courthouse and will be open beginning at 4:00 PM, when Santa arrives, and throughout the Christmas Lights Parade. Vendors are expected to remain open until 9:00 PM.

 

Only 6 specialty food vendors will be accepted for this event. Applications will be reviewed based on menu variety, quality, presentation, and the overall fit with the event. Applying does not guarantee acceptance.

 

We encourage vendors to embrace the A Whoville Christmas theme by decorating your booth or food truck in a fun, festive, and creative way!

Join us for Thomaston's 8th Annual Christmas Lights Parade!

This year's parade theme is A Whoville Christmas, and we invite businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations, nonprofits, families, community groups, and other organizations to celebrate the season with us.

The parade will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2026, in Downtown Thomaston.

We encourage all parade participants to decorate their entry and bring the spirit of Whoville to life! Creative floats, decorated vehicles, walking groups, characters, costumes, lights, music, and other festive displays are welcome.

Parade entries may include:
• Floats
• Cars and trucks
• Golf carts
• ATVs/UTVs
• Buses and 18-wheelers
• Horses/equestrian entries
• Walking groups
• Community organizations
• Schools and student groups
• Churches
• Businesses
• Nonprofits and civic organizations
• Other appropriate parade entries

 

Please provide accurate information about your entry, including the type and size of your entry and the number of participants. This information will be used to create the parade lineup and ensure appropriate spacing and safety.

 

Space in the parade is limited. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance. The City of Thomaston reserves the right to approve, deny, combine, or limit entries based on safety, logistics, appropriateness, and the overall flow of the parade.

Terms & Conditions
Christmas Lights Parade Participant Terms & Conditions By submitting an application to participate in the Thomaston Christmas Lights Parade, the applicant agrees to comply with all parade rules, safety requirements, and instructions from the City of Thomaston, parade staff, law enforcement, and emergency personnel. 1. Vehicles & Drivers * All motorized vehicles participating in the parade must be operated by a person with a **valid driver's license**. * Motorcycle riders are required to wear a **properly fitted helmet at all times** while participating in the parade. Participants who fail to comply may be removed from the parade. * **Golf carts and ATVs/UTVs equipped with seat belts are not required to have the driver or passengers wear helmets. However, seat belts must be worn at all times.** * All vehicles must remain on the designated parade route unless directed otherwise by parade officials or law enforcement. * Unlicensed, unregistered, or improperly tagged vehicles that leave the designated parade route may be subject to enforcement action, including possible impoundment. * Drivers must operate vehicles at a safe speed and maintain a safe distance from other parade entries, pedestrians, and spectators. * No participant may ride on the exterior of a moving vehicle or in an unsafe position. 2. Candy & Giveaways * Candy and small giveaways are permitted. * **Candy may not be thrown directly into the roadway.** * Walkers may distribute or gently toss candy toward the **sidewalk area**, away from moving vehicles. * Participants should never encourage children or spectators to enter the parade route to retrieve candy or other items. 3. Horses & Livestock * All horses participating in the parade must have a **manure collection bag** or a designated walker following the animal to promptly collect any droppings. * Handlers are responsible for maintaining control of their animals throughout the parade. * Animals that present a safety concern may be removed from the parade at the discretion of parade officials or law enforcement. 4. Parade Entries & Participation * All parade entries must be appropriate for a **family-friendly Christmas celebration**. * Parade participants must remain with their assigned entry and follow instructions regarding lineup, movement, and placement. * Participants may not leave their assigned entry or interfere with another parade entry. * Applications may be denied or entries may be removed if the proposed participation does not meet the purpose, safety requirements, or family-friendly nature of the parade. * **School-related marching organizations**, including bands, ROTC, Color Guard, and similar groups, may participate as approved by the Parade Committee. 5. Political, Inappropriate & Prohibited Content The Christmas Lights Parade is a community holiday event. Parade entries may not include: * Political campaign signs, political advertisements, or political materials. * Social or political advocacy materials that are unrelated to the Christmas parade. * Inappropriate, offensive, vulgar, or obscene costumes, signs, gestures, language, displays, or behavior. * Displays or use of the American Flag that do not comply with applicable U.S. Flag Code guidelines. * Any material or conduct that parade officials determine to be inappropriate for a family-oriented community event. 6. Alcohol, Drugs & Tobacco * Participants may not participate in the parade while **under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs**. * Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited on parade entries and in the parade lineup area. * **Tobacco products, including smoking and vaping, are prohibited on the parade route and while participating in the parade.** 7. Safety & Removal from the Parade The **City of Thomaston and parade officials reserve the right to deny participation or remove any participant, vehicle, animal, or parade entry from the parade at any time** when necessary to protect public safety or maintain the integrity of the event. Removal may occur without advance notice for violations of these Terms & Conditions, failure to follow instructions, unsafe conduct, inappropriate behavior, or any other circumstance that parade officials reasonably determine presents a safety concern or is inconsistent with the family-friendly nature of the event. Participants agree to immediately follow the directions of parade officials, City staff, law enforcement, and emergency personnel. 8. Compliance Failure to comply with these Terms & Conditions may result in: * Removal from the parade; * Denial of participation in future City-sponsored events; * Citation or other enforcement action when applicable; and/or * Other action permitted by law. By submitting an application, the participant acknowledges that they have read, understand, and agree to follow these Terms & Conditions.
