About the event
The Mr. Owosso Contest Kick-Off is scheduled for May 7th, at 7pm, at the Knights of Columbus. It won’t be long, and candidates will be busy organizing fundraising events that will elevate them to victory and the title of the 2027 Mr. Owosso. Once the contest is officially kicked off, the fundraising begins.The Contest has been a Curwood Festival tradition since 1980, when Bob Stone was the first to be crowned. Candidates commit 3 weeks of time and energy to raise as much money aspossible for an area nonprofit. Various fundraising events include, dinners, parties, golf outings, concerts, 5K races, car washes, auctions and numerous other creative and fun opportunities to raise ndidates and their teams design and proudly wear campaign t-shirts to build spirit, support and generate awareness for their cause. The true spirit of generosity is revealed throughout theentire contest experience.The culmination of the event will be hosted by Sideline Sports Bar at the Curwood Beer Tent on June 5th at 5pm. The Contest Finale has candidates entertaining the crowd with talent and swimsuit contests, as well as a formal interview. Contest GuidelinesCurwood Festival invites you to consider entering a candidate for the 2027 Mr. Owosso Contest. As past contestants have shown, this contest is a great way to raise funds for charities and organizations. In addition, it is great fun for participants and audiences alike. If you have any questions, please call Joe Petersen 989-277-6860 or Joe Holden 989-277-9080 from the Mr. Owosso committee or the festival office 989-723-2161.* An organization may seek out a candidate who will run for them, or an individual may enter the contest, pledging the money he collects to his favorite non-profit charity or civic group with the organization's consent.* Each candidate must live or work in Shiawassee County and have attained 21 years of age.*Each candidate must have a campaign manager who will be responsible for communications with the Mr. Owosso Committee and for assisting the candidate in fundraising and accounting for all fund raised by the candidate.* Candidates must agree to participate in all advertising or promotional events requested by the Curwood Festival and its promoters. The winner of the contest will also have to commit to making appearances the following year when asked by the Curwood Festival.* The sponsoring organization or pledged charity receives a flat rate of 85% AFTER EXPENSES, of the money raised by its candidate. The remaining 15% goes to the Curwood Festival to defray the cost of producing the festival. Candidates will pay their own expenses.* The Mr. Owosso Committee will not sponsor nor publicize events for candidates except for the traditional "Kick-Off" on Friday, May 7th, 2027. At this time candidates will be introduced. After this the candidates will have 4 weeks to raise funds. Fundraising events CANNOT be held before the Kick-Off.* A copy of all scheduled events must to turned into the Mr. Owosso Committee by May 3, 2027, for committee approval. (Please do not finalize without approval.)* The Mr. Owosso Committee must approve fundraising schemes, aside from normal solicitation, on a case-by-case basis.* The Candidate that scores the most points will be crowned "Mr. Owosso". One point will be earned for every $1.00 raised, after expenses. Additional points will be earned through participation in various events during the 4-week campaign including the "finale" on Saturday, June 5, 2027.* All sponsoring organizations or pledged charities must be non-profit, community-oriented organizations with the funds raised being used for service and not administrative purposes. All money raised on behalf of these organizations MUST be used in the spirit of the Mr. Owosso Contest and according to the laws of the State of Michigan.* Candidates or organizations can hold a raffle for the Mr. Owosso contest but must use their organization's license. Any "Give-a-ways" must happen within a 24-hour span during a fundraiser, and MAY NOT exceed $250.00 (Totaling all prizes to be given away.)* No games of chance such as 50/50 or other raffles are allowed in the Entertainment Tent.* With the exception of the "Run for the Money" only Mr. Owosso candidates can receive cash donations in the Entertainment Tent, when applicable.* On Thursday, Hospitality Night, the solicitation of funds or selling of products is NOT permitted until/unless the Entertainment Tent is open to the public.* You may advertise your events before the "Kick-Off". You may wear t-shirts before the kick-off, for example BOB JONES FOR MR. OWOSSO. You may advertise the charity you are representing, and you MUST have the Mr. Owosso Logo and the words "For Mr. Owosso" on ALL campaign paraphernalia.* Any monies collected early will be confiscated and given directly to your charity but will not be added to your campaign total. Only candidates can collect money in the entertainment Tent until the final Run for the Money is announced. At that time only 4 people will be allowed to run. (Candidate cannot be one of the runners) and the campaign manager will be up front to receive all money collected. All money must be in currency or check form with the checks payable to: CURWOOD FESTIVAL INC.* The money turned into the contest officials MUST be the NET amount; AFTER ALL expenses have been paid. The sponsored charity CANNOT be responsible for paying contest debts AFTER the finale.*All T-Shirt designs must receive Mr. Owosso Committee approval. (Please do not print without approval.)* A Mr. Owosso Campaign may represent and raise funds for only one non-profit organization per contest year. No multiple organization entries allowed.Entertainment for the candidate, as well as fun for the audience, is as much a part of the popularity of this Contest as is the fundraising.
