ColorMix Sock is a 3-ply, heavy fingering weight yarn spun from a 80/20 Superwash Merino Wool/Nylon blend. ColorMix Sock utilizes a different dyeing technique, which allows the colors to change more often than all the other ColorMix Yarn lines. This was developed with items such as socks, mitts, and hats in mind so that all the colors in the skein can appear. (Verses only getting 2 or 3 color changes by the time you finish the first sock, mitt, or hat.) This dyeing process is very time consuming, but I think well worth the effort! Machine or hand wash.
The last photo is to show you an example of how this yarn works up. The socks were knitted following a generic sock pattern in colorways Summer Picnic and Tropical Rainforest, both with a contrast heel and cuff (scrap yarn I had on hand). The socks are not included in this sale.
NOTE: Due to the nature of how this yarn is dyed (kettle dyed first, then spun into yarn), color placement and intensity will vary between skeins, and within the skein itself. The yarn you receive may look slightly different than those in the photo. However, do note that the yarns shown above in this listing are 3 that I felt best represented the variances within the dye lot. This should give you a better idea of what you might receive. If you have a preference -- darkest, lightest, one showing the most of a certain color, please write it in the notes and I will do my best. Let yourself go and allow the yarn to flow and do its magic!
When ordering multiple skeins, I will try to select skeins that are the closest match to one another.
One skein is enough for a calf-length pair of adult L socks. For longer socks, I suggest using a contrasting yarn for the toe, heel, and cuff.
Yarn Hero's ColorMix line is a unique dyed in the wool yarn that works up into long gradients and/or stripes of color. Just as the name implies, ColorMix yarns use optical blending within the strand to create unlimited color blends. Unlike hand-painted yarn, the color changes will work up into long bands of color, instead of short repeats. Colors will shift, marl, stripe, and shift back again. Each skein is a one-of-a-kind, even when from the same dye lot. Make sure to order the number of skeins you need to finish your project, as the next batch could be, and most likely be, different.

A note about the milling process.
All ColorMix yarns are milled in a small, family-run US mini mill. This means that the yarns are created by hand in small batches on simple cottage industry equipment. Due to this, there will be small variances in the thickness of the yarn, as well as the occasional join or slub throughout the skein.
