The event features fun for the entire family. Highlights include live entertainment, educational workshops and presentations, gardening tips, children’s activities, arts and crafts, games and prizes, retail and resource vendors, fine art display, and free health screenings. Each year we recognize community youth and award student scholarships.

The Valley of the Sun Juneteenth Celebration has been a tradition in Phoenix for over 20 years. Considered the oldest Black American holiday, annual celebrations go back to 1866 in many U.S. regions as some Black communities countrywide have long observed the holiday, which gets its name from two words combining the words — “June” and “nineteenth.”
