Uncle Carl’s BBQ Showdown Presented by the Department of NC VFW & The Dogwood Festival Benefiting: We Are One Big Happy Family Set-up is allowed to begin on March 27th, 2026 Get ready, Fayetteville! The smell of smoked brisket, sizzling chicken, and slow-cooked ribs will fill the air at Uncle Carl’s BBQ Showdown, happening March 27–28, 2026. This family-friendly event is more than just a cookoff — it’s a celebration of community, tradition, and good old-fashioned fun. Teams from near and far will fire up their smokers and compete for bragging rights, trophies, and the title of Grand Champion. With categories in Brisket, Chicken, Ribs, and Pulled Pork, the competition will be fierce but friendly, showcasing the incredible talent and passion right here in our community. But this event is about more than great BBQ — it’s about coming together. Sponsored by the Department of NC VFW and The Dogwood Festival, the Showdown benefits We Are One Big Happy Family, an organization dedicated to supporting and uplifting our neighbors. Health & safety
Cooking & Fire Safety All cooking must be done in designated team areas. Teams must bring their own grills/smokers and ensure they are in safe working condition. Fire extinguishers are required at each cooking station. Propane, charcoal, and open flames must be handled responsibly. Food Safety All meats must be stored at safe temperatures before cooking (below 40°F). Cooked meats must be kept at proper holding temperatures until turn-in. Cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods must be avoided at all times. Teams must use gloves when handling food. Personal Safety Children under 18 are not allowed in the cooking area. No pets are allowed in competition cooking areas (service animals exempt). Teams should maintain a clean, clutter-free workspace to prevent accidents. Health & Emergency Protocols First aid will be available on-site. In case of emergency, please contact event staff or security immediately. Teams are required to comply with all local health department regulations.
