This Is Me, members-only self-portrait show running in August, with $1000 in combined prizes and a reduced submission fee.

Look in the mirror. Who is looking back at you? Do those piercing eyes cloak a tender soul within? Or perhaps the deep lines across one’s face are laurels earned through a lifetime of determination, grit and perseverance.

For many artists, a self-portrait runs deeper than external features. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons Van Gogh painted over 40 self-portraits, Frida Kahlo created more than 50, Emily Carr produced about 6, while Gustav Klimt painted only one in his entire lifetime. The self-portrait lets artists reveal themselves authentically to the world, and provide deeper insights into their art.

Leslie Grove Gallery is pleased to host a members-only juried self-portrait exhibition, from August 19 to 30, 2026. We invite you to join the celebration and show us who you are, inside and out.

Your self-portrait may document your artistic evolution based on style, mediums, and inspirations. The things that make you, you.

Don’t be deterred if portraiture is not in your usual repertoire. We are planning a special virtual How To Paint A Self Portrait education workshop with Caroline Ji, on Friday, May 22 at 12PM to help you out. Register now at https://www.artistsnetwork.ca/artists-calendar/edu-painting-self-portrait

You may also wish to watch the March 2026 education workshop on the History of Self Portraits, led by Jeff Fortinsky, available in the Members Hub at https://artistsnetwork.ca/videos/v/me-selfportrait-art-history

It is exciting to see the array of possibilities within the self-portrait genre, and the potential for creating your own.

Prizes will be awarded to artists in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as honourable mentions, totalling $1000 in cash prizes.
