Teton Plein Air Painters: Honoring Tradition
On Display August 7 - September 30, 2025
Teton Plein Air Painters are invited to submit artwork for the Art Association’s annual exhibition and celebration of TPAP participants’ creativity. This year’s theme is Honoring Tradition. Plein Air Painting has a long history beginning in Europe in the early 1800s (though there are records of Italian painters working directly from nature as early as the 1500s). Plein air work has been instrumental in the development of the Western American landscape tradition, with artists like Thomas Moran, Charlie Russell, Frank Tenney Johnson, and Carl Rungius. Today’s plein air painters carry on that tradition and push its definition in new directions. We want to show that long thread of artistic tradition and practice in this exhibit. We will display artist statements along with the work to deepen the gallery visitor’s experience - please think about submitting work that can illustrate your artistic influences, your plein air practice, and the effect that the plein air movement has had on your artistic trajectory.
We are excited to see your creativity!
