The United Nations has designated June 20th as World Refugee Day and every year, community organizations around the globe- host events to commemorate the occasion.
This year, we invite you to come join us at Lake Mayer Park for our annual World Refugee Day celebration on Sunday, June 23 from 3:00pm-6:00pm! This is a day dedicated to recognizing and uplifting the numerous communities of individuals from around the world who have found a new home in Savannah. This event will showcase and celebrate the culture of Georgia's many refugee and immigrant communities and will feature:
-Traditional dances, musical acts, and other performances
-Booths showcasing the vibrant culture and history of Savannah's refugee and immigrant communities
-A diverse selection of food and sweets from both local Savannah restauranteurs and local individuals featuring cuisines from around the world
-Remarks from community leaders and elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
-Variety of games and activities for children
Join us as we come together to stand in solidarity with refugees, asylum seekers, and other immigrants in our community who have been displaced from their home countries and who have found a new home in Georgia. This is a fun and festive opportunity to learn and meet with new neighbors, connect with other folks in the community, and be apart of our larger work to advocate for welcoming policies that protect and uplift Georgia's refugee and immigrant communities. You won't want to miss it!
This event and everything it includes is free and open to the public.
