The first SantaCaliGon Days festival was held in 1940 to celebrate the unique heritage of the City of Independence as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails. A second celebration was held after World War II in 1947. The festival was not held again until 1973. In 52 years, the SCG has evolved into one of the nations premier FREE festivals, drawing more than 300,000 people each Labor Day weekend.

Parking instructions

Parking is available on the blocks surrounding the Independence Square. Additionally, a shuttle runs from the Community of Christ Auditorium parking lot to the Square throughout the festival, for just $1 per person. Handicap parking is available at Lynn and Truman Rd and Lynn and Kansas St with a handicap sticker, or hang tag.

Square Merchant: This application is for those who have a brick & mortar business on the Historic Square, and plan to be open during the festival.

NOTE: We do our best to leave the space available per your request, however we never guarantee the space, as the footprint can change year to year.

If you plan to use the space in front of your business:

We ask that you remain open during the hours of the festival
You must be selling like items, that would typically be sold in your store. NO SUB-LETTING.
We assume you will not be open unless you notify the festival office.
Notification must be NO LATER than July 1st . NO EXCEPTIONS!
