Learn the whimsical, colorful style of Charlie Frye in Painting Owls! Known for his expressive owls, Charlie will walk participants through the basics of painting and color. Each participant will create their own owl. Feel free to follow along with Charlie or to paint your own vision. All supplies are included in this two-hour class. All experience levels and ages welcome, but children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This workshop will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 2-4 PM. We encourage all participants to join us for Art Night, August 4, from 5-8 PM to see Charlie’s Museum Gallery Exhibition America the Beautiful and again on Friday, August 5, from 6-7:30 PM to see its partner exhibition at Hotel Indigo in Downtown Tuscaloosa. Charlie will be giving artist talks at 6:30 PM at both events. This workshop has a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 16. If the workshop does not meet the minimum, participants will be refunded.  About Charlie Frye: Charlie Frye is a self-trained folk artist and owner of the Folk Keeper Gallery and Antiques. Using primarily acrylics, he prefers found objects to traditional canvases. You will see his work comprised of wild strokes and bold colors on barnwood, crates, pots and pans to name just a few. Owls are a staple in his work, as is the local people and scenery of rural Appalachia. This comes as no surprise as his family has been in Lenoir for more than 100 years. Frye looks to his surroundings for subjects for his art. “I just look at the world around me as my inspiration,” he said. “I mainly paint from memories and my imagination. It’s what I do every day. I get to paint the visions in my head all the time. I’m a lucky man.”-Charlie Frye This event is made possible in part by a grant from Alabama State Council on the Arts.
