Chalk Art Contest Registration
Deadline: Nov 02, 2020

Chalk Art Contest – sponsored by Wilson Arts  

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact for the submission must be at least 16  years of age.

4.      The participants must select one of the following categories:

·        Category 1: Children (age 12 or under)

·        Category 2: Teens (age 13-17)

·        Category 3: Adults, non-artist (18 or older)

·        Category 4: Group/Family/Organization

·        Category 5: Professional Artist

 

5.      To complete the Chalk Art contest the participants must:

·        The chalk art must be an “inclusive” style, that includes a member of the family or friends in the design as part of the final artwork. The more people included the better! Examples include: holding balloons, riding bikes, sailing across water, picking flowers, etc… the art work must include a person in the final photo.  Samples are provided in PDF. 

·        Create an original chalk art outside on a hard surface, driveway, patio or sidewalk at a home or private location. The chalk art will not be completed downtown due to the pandemic. Artist must provide their own chalk.

·        The design can be inspired by ideas on the internet or seen in other places; however, the chalk art must be an original creation and created by the participants on the registration form. All designs must be advertisement free. Logos may only be included by organizations. Design may not include any profanity, discriminatory messages or illegal substances. There is no size limit.

·        Submit 5 photos of the chalk art including photos of the family/friends drawing the chalk art images and 1 with the members of the family or friends posing in the artwork.

·        Submit a time lapse video (max 55 seconds) displaying the creation of the chalk art from the beginning of the drawing to the completed chalk art.  Adobe Spark Video is suggested, but not required.

·        Participants are encouraged to share their creations on social medial using the #giveitawhirl, #whirligigfestival2020 and tag the Wilson Arts @wilsonarts.

·        The deadline for submitting Chalk Art entries is during Whirligig Week on Monday, November 2 at 8 pm.

 

6.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the Wilson Arts staff and festival planning team.  The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

7.      The winners will be selected based on creativity, originality and inclusion of family/friends in the chalk art. 

8.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Saturday, November 7 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.

9.      Winners may pick up their Prize Pack the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 7, Sunday, Nov. 8. or make individual appointments with the festival team during the following week. Time is of the essence. Prize packs not claimed by Friday, Nov. 13 will be forfeited.

Give it a Whirl Dance Challenge Registration
Deadline: Nov 02, 2020

Give It A Whirl Dance Video Challenge - Sponsored by Wilson Arts  

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website at https://www.whirligigfestivalnc.org.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact for the contest must be at least 16 years of age.

4.      The video challenge will be posted on the festival social media accounts, Instagram and Facebook. Participants will use the registration process to submit their completed challenge video. 

5.      To complete the Give It a Whirl Dance Contest participants must:

a.      Watch the provided sample video and practice the dance challenge (Coming soon!)

b.      Submit a video (max 55 seconds) mimicking the challenge

c.      The deadline for submitting the video entry is during Whirligig Week on Monday, November 2 at 8 pm.

d.      Participants may use whatever platform they wish to use (i.e. Instagram Reels, TikTok, etc.) as long as it meets the above criteria

6.      The judges, comprised of Wilson Arts staff and the Whirligig Festival Planning Committee,  will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. 1st place will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

7.      The winners will be selected based on creativity, number of family/friends included (safely distanced) and how close the participants come to matching the dance challenge.   

8.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Saturday, November 7 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form. 

9.      Winners may pick up their Prize Pack the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 7, Sunday, Nov. 8. or make individual appointments with the festival team during the following week. Time is of the essence. Prize packs not claimed by Friday, Nov. 13 will be forfeited.

Coloring Contest Registration
Deadline: Nov 02, 2020

Coloring Page Contest - Sponsored by Wilson Arts  

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      This contest is only open to children 12 years of age or under. The main contact on the registration must be an adult.  

4.      To complete the Coloring Page contest participants must:

a.      Download one of the provided coloring pages.

b.      The page must be colored-in by a child 12 years of age or under.

c.      Submit a photo or scanned document of the completed coloring page. You may also drop off the coloring page at the Edna Earl Boykin Center, 108 Nash Street NE, during operating hours.

d.      The deadline for submitting Coloring Pages entries is during Whirligig Week on Monday, November 2 at 8 pm.

5.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the Wilson Arts staff and festival planning team. The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

6.      The winners will be selected based on creativity and the artistic talent of the completed coloring page.

7.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Saturday, November 7 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.

8.      Winners may pick up their Prize Pack the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 7, Sunday, Nov. 8. or make individual appointments with the festival team during the following week. Time is of the essence. Prize packs not claimed by Friday, Nov. 13 will be forfeited.

Bingo Card Registration

Whirligig Bingo  – Sponsored by the NC Whirligig Festival

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact for the registration must be 16 years of age or older.

4.      To complete the Wilson Bingo Card contest participants must:

a.      Download the image or PDF of the Wilson Bingo Card.

b.      Participants must complete 5 challenges in any row up, down, across or diagonal to complete BINGO.

c.      Submit 5 photos of the friends/family demonstrating the completion of BINGO. The photos submitted must include the challenge/action item AND the participants on the registration form.

d.      The deadline for submitting Wilson Bingo Card is during Whirligig Week on Tuesday, November 3 at 8 pm.

5.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the NC Whirligig Festival planning team. The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

6.      The winners will be selected based on completing BINGO either up, down, across or diagonal, creativity and inclusion of family/friends in the challenge.

7.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Saturday, November 7 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.

Whirligig Trivia Contest Registration
Deadline: Nov 02, 2020

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact on the registration must be 16 years of age or older.

4.      Participants have 2 options for completing the Whirligig Trivia contest participants must.

a.      Option 1:

·        Go to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park on their own schedule anytime during October.

·        Open the trivia contest with the link connecting to the Kahoots APP.

·        Answer the trivia questions as quickly as possible to obtain a high score.

·        Submit your score through the registration process. (scores will be confirmed)

·        Submit a photo of yourself in the Whirligig Park through the registration process.

b.      Option 2:

·        Download the Trivia Challenge Questionnaire.

·        Go to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park on their own schedule anytime during October.

·        Answer the trivia questions on the questionnaire.

·        Scan or take a picture of the questionnaire and upload it through the registration process.

c.      The deadline for completing the trivia contest is during Whirligig Week on Wednesday, November 4 at 8 pm.

5.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the VSWP staff and festival planning team. The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

6.      The winners will be selected based on highest scores. 

7.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Saturday, November 7 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.

Throwback Photo Contest Registration

Throwback Thursday Photo Contest – Sponsored by the NC Whirligig Festival    

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact on the registration form must be at least 16 year of age.

4.      To complete the Throwback Thursday Wilson contest participants must:

a.      Provide a personal, original historical photo owned by yourself, a family member, a business or organization.

b.      Selected photo must more than 1 year old from Nov 1, 2020 to be considered “throwback”.

c.      Select only one photo from Wilson’s past such as a previous festival, milestone family event, significant day for a business, organization or community event.

d.      Upload two photos: (1) the selected photograph; (2) participant holding the printed photo  

e.      The deadline for submitting the Throwback Thursday Photo Contest is during Whirligig Week on Thursday, November 5 at 8 pm.

5.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the NC Whirligig Festival planning team. The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

6.      The winners will be selected based on originality and creativity.

Foodie Contest Registration
Deadline: Nov 06, 2020

Foodie Friday Contest – Sponsored by Lacewell Insurance

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact for the registration must be 16 years of age or older.

4.      To complete the Foodie Friday contest participants must:

a.      Be home chefs, professional cooks or restaurants are excluded.

b.      Select a food typically only available at the festival. Top dishes for consideration are: funnel cake, turkey legs, kettle corn, roasted ears of corn, deep fried desserts, chicken on a stick and really anything on a stick!

c.      Foods that cannot be considered are hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ, sandwiches, beverages or anything that can be typically be ordered in a restaurant.

d.      Cook food dish in their home kitchen using personal supplies and equipment.

e.      Invite several family/friends to serve as taste test judges using scorecards to display feedback. Scoring should range from (1) for poor taste to (10) for excellent taste.

f.       Submit 5 photos:  one photo of the completed dish plated, two photos of the home chef cooking the food, one photo of family/friends tasting food and one photo of the judges holding scorecards 

g.      Optional – home chef may submit a video (max 55 seconds) showing creativity and demonstration of home cooking festival food.

h.      The deadline for submitting the Foodie Friday Cooking contest is during Whirligig Week on Friday, November 6 at 8 pm.

5.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the NC Whirligig Festival planning team. The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

6.      The winners will be selected based on originality and creativity expressed through the submitted photos and video. Judges will also consider the inclusion of family/friends. Due to COVID health concerns, there will not be an actual taste test. 

7.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Sunday, November 8 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.

8.      Winners may pick up their Prize Pack the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 8. or make individual appointments with the festival team during the following week. Time is of the essence. Prize packs not claimed by Friday, Nov. 13 will be forfeited.

Fitness Challenge Registration
Deadline: Nov 07, 2020

Fitness Challenge – Sponsored by Wilson Medical Center    

 

1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      Participant must be at least 16 years of age to compete.

4.      To complete the Whirl’round Wilson fitness challenge participants must:

a.      Download the Fitness Challenge PDF for personal tracking

b.      Complete 3 of the 5-weekly challenges during the month of October.

c.      Submit 4 photos, 1 for each week, of participant completing the challenges.  

d.      Cross the finish line and complete the challenge on Saturday, November 7 at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park by 4:00 pm  

 

5.      All those that complete the fitness challenge will receive a t-shirt from the Wilson Medical Center. All those that complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing for one cash prize of $100.

6.      The drawing winner will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Sunday, November 8 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winner through the contact information provided on the registration form.

7.      Winners may pick up their Prize Pack the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 8. or make individual appointments with the festival team during the following week. Time is of the essence. Prize packs not claimed by Friday, Nov. 13 will be forfeited.

1.     Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.     The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.     Main contact must be at least 16 years of age.

4.     To enter the Whirligig Champion contest participants must complete four or more of the festival’s virtual contests.

5.     The judges will review all entries. One champion will be selected based on enthusiasm, creativity and participation.

6.     The Champion will a $100 cash prize, original whirligig inspired trophy and festival merchandise items.

7.     The winner will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Sunday, November 8 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.
