LagoonFest celebrates one of the most picturesque waterways and estuaries in The Palm Beaches . . . Lake Worth Lagoon. Come enjoy this FREE event on November 5, 2022 to discover what makes this Lagoon such a local treasure and fantastic place to visit. Finding water in The Palm Beaches is easy. It’s everywhere you go. From 47 miles of spectacular beaches, to sunsets over Lake Okeechobee’s teeming waters, to the one-of-a-kind Florida Everglades. They’re all here, including an extraordinary 20-mile waterway: Lake Worth Lagoon. To celebrate this unique estuary and the multiple ways to appreciate its beauty – come to Lagoon Fest. This free event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on November 5, 2022 along Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach (Datura to Fern). Bring the entire family and enjoy wildlife presentations, participate in Kayak Clean-Up Tours, Catamaran History Tour, stop by exhibitor booths, the Kids Zone and more! And happening right next door is the West Palm Beach Green Market, featuring delicious foods, locally-grown seasonal fruits, and veggies. What a delightful way to spend a Saturday. FLOATER/BREAKDOWN & CLEAN-UP; You will meet at the Volunteer Check-in booth to be assigned to various location to assist with breaks for other volunteers. You will be assigned to positions such as Kids Zone, Mascot Handlers, Dock Attendants, Info Booth, etc. You will also be assisting other volunteers with breakdown, clean-up, and pack out of booths and activities at the end of LagoonFest.

-Volunteer Check-in requires an organized, multi-tasker and good communicator that will check in ALL LagoonFest volunteers; provide a Volunteer T-shirt and information about the volunteer assignments. - Be able to contact specific “area” Volunteer Coordinators via phone or radio - Assist with MASCOT check-in and changing area -Manage the Volunteer break area - Volunteers must make themselves aware of event purpose and activities, be outgoing and engage with attendees/volunteers, provide direction as needed - Keep area neat, clean of trash
MASCOT VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR – will have a list of Mascots/Names/Agencies and Cell Phone #s to check in at the Mascot Tent/Stage area MASCOT Volunteers report and check-in at the Volunteer Check-in tent with the Mascot Coordinator and get “Mascot Parade” instructions. You have access to the Mascot Tent dressing area for changing. You can also use this area to take breaks and rehydrate away from the public. -MASCOT COORDINATOR will arrange and manage the “MASCOT PARADE” and time schedule. -Handlers to assist in dressing Mascot, escorting/guiding mascot through the LagoonFest Event Site and engage mascots with the public and photo ops. -Mascots (while interacting with guest) please do not hug or touch guest. -Handlers and Mascots - Be mindful of the temperature and take as many breaks as needed. Stay hydrated. - ENGAGE Event Goers! While preforming the duties as stated above, the MASCOT is frequently required to listen, use hands, walk, move and dance. The MASCOT and handler may be required to walk and stand for an hour at a time and may occasionally be required to work outside in various climates and environments.

Please check in first: CREW must be able to bend, lift up to 50 pounds, Setup/breakdown of all SIGNAGE, A-frame signage throughout the event site, assisting with other booth set up as needed. Tape electrical cords down to avoid trip hazard, unload assist with traffic or vendors and exhibitors if needed. Golf cart will be available. Breakdown crews will assist with the breakdown of signage throughout the site, assisting with exhibitors, traffic flow and maintenance, directing general public where to park. Also may have to assist with boats at the docks.

FACE PAINTING Volunteers must be patient, somewhat artistic, engaging and enjoy kids. Ready to paint!

Volunteers need to assist with assembly and set up the NEW (Beneficial Reuse of unusable beach nourishment material with large shells). Set up will include one or two canvas tarps, create a “Sand Pile with Shells” in the middle or a few smaller ones, allow children to did through the pile and select a few discovered shells to bring home. Provide a small bag for their shell treasure. Share with the parents about the origin of the shell/sand material. Need to limit the # of shell hunters so it is an enjoyable (not overcrowded) experience. GOAL: Get rid of ALL shells!!! May need to assist small children. Volunteers first check in at Volunteer Check-in for T-shirts and then report to KIDS ZONE coordinator.

MURAL BOOTH/TENT volunteers must be patient, engaging with participants, somewhat artistic and help event goers and children to participate in painting large LagoonFest Murals.

The Tortoise Burrow is a handcrafted model of a Gopher Tortoise burrow that kids and small adults can crawl through the entrance and experience a burrow and its commensal friends that live in there too. Volunteers need to assist with assembly and set up Tortoise Burrow habitat with commensuals in the Kids Zone. This exhibit allows participants to crawl into and through a simulated tortoise burrow and see the other (fake) creatures that may reside in these large underground burrows. Engage the eventgoers with information about gopher tortoises. Encourage kids to enter and explore – 1 at a time. and/or rearrange after kids play. Should engage kids and parents to hang out and play with lawn toys. May need to assist small children.

Volunteers need to set up, reset and manage Large Lawn toys on the canvas tarps on the lawn in the KIDS Zone area. May need to wipe down periodically and/or rearrange after kids play. Should engage kids and parents to hang out and play with lawn toys. May need to assist small children. Volunteers must have angler skills to show kids how to “cast a line” and hook a magnetic lawn fish. Need to be patient and able to untangle fishing line and fishing reels. Volunteers must be patient, enjoy kids and skilled at getting fishing lines untangled.

ERM Staff provide ERM program information at LagoonFest. Create and engaging, interactive display that interests festivalgoers (both children and adults). Volunteers must be knowledgeable of ERM’s programs, friendly and outgoing.

- Be outgoing and engage with attendees, 1 person assigned to each boat tour. - Please report to BOAT DOCK 30 minutes before start of shift. - Dock attendant will be available at the dock entrance to engage with festival goers about the dock activities and tour sign ups if available.
BOAT TOUR GUIDES/NARRATORS are knowledgeable about the history, habitat and restoration projects in Lake Worth Lagoon and communicate that information on an approximately 30 minute boat tour. Specifically South Cove and Tarpon Cove, boat tour areas. - Be outgoing and engage with attendees, 1 person assigned to each boat tour. - Please report to BOAT DOCK 30 minutes before start of shift. -Communication with the Boat Captains, assist with participant sign-up if needed and assist with staffing the boat tour tent. Share the history, habitat and restoration projects in LWL to the tour participants.
