BWASH and the City of Sugar Hill proudly present our 7th Annual Juneteenth Celebration! Join us for a day of community and culture featuring the Miss Juneteenth pageant, music, family games, and a scholarship award. This is a FREE event and we look forward to welcoming you on Saturday, June 20th from 4pm-9pm Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of the remaining enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, TX. It is also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day. The name “Juneteenth” references the date by combining the words “June” and “nineteenth,” as the traditional date, which is now a federal holiday in the United States, recognized on June 19th.
