ARTLANTA FESTIVAL OF CULTURE October 30 – November 1 | Historic Fourth Ward Park Atlanta has always had its own ideas. About music. About style. About art. About Culture. ARTlanta is three days devoted to those ideas. The flagship event of the I'M SO ATL™ Citywide Public Art Campaign brings visual artists, DJs, installations, murals, records and people together at Historic Fourth Ward Park for a weekend built around the creative language of Atlanta. Not an Atlanta-themed festival. An Atlanta festival. The distinction matters. Expect curated DJ sets instead of playlists. Full songs instead of snippets. Vinyl and 45s. Favorites next to deep cuts and B-sides. Murals, artistic builds and installations from creatives working across the city. Some things you'll recognize immediately. Some things you'll discover when you get there. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 DJ KIZZY ROCK PRESENTS: THE RETURN OF THE OLD ATLANTA EXPERIENCE There are Atlanta records everybody knows. Then there are Atlanta records that tell you who was actually outside. Friday starts there. DJ Kizzy Rock returns with the fifth installment of The Old Atlanta Experience, revisiting the records, dances and particular sensibility of Atlanta's '90s music culture. This isn't nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. It's remembering what Atlanta sounded like before everything was documented, uploaded and explained. Some people were there. Some got here later and never left. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31 I'M SO ATL: THE SOUNDTRACK ATLiens 30 Years Later Thirty years ago, ATLiens sounded like Atlanta imagining somewhere else.Now we're bringing it back outside. Saturday's Feature Presentation celebrates the 30th anniversary of OutKast's 2x Platinum sophomore album, ATLiens, with something deliberately simple: The complete album. Unedited. Uninterrupted. Under the Atlanta night sky. Light and projection works created by Atlanta artists will accompany the listening experience, turning the park into a visual interpretation of the record rather than another concert stage. The hours leading into it move through Atlanta's musical catalog—favorites, B-sides, deep cuts and records that deserve to be played all the way through. It's Halloween so of course we're having a costume party. The assignment: Atlanta, interpreted however you see it. Come '90s. Come futuristic. Pull something obscure out of the city's memory. Or ignore the assignment completely. ATLiens Costume Party Lounge Powered by Cutwater Spirits & Streetz 94.5 For those who want a home base for the night, the ATLiens Lounge sits adjacent to the presentation area with covered space, open-air viewing, lounge seating, complimentary Cutwater Spirits (while supplies last), refreshments, full bar access, giveaways and a few things we're intentionally not putting on the flyer. Costume optional. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 MOVEMENT :When is the last time that you danced? Michael Jackson + Stevie Wonder. On Vinyl. Good records. Played properly. And enough room to move. The final day is built around vinyl and the physical experience of hearing music together. The Feature Presentation is a special tribute to the songs of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, presented through the texture and warmth of analog recordings. No algorithm trying to figure out what should come next. No need to get to the hook in fifteen seconds. Put the record on. Let it play. Michael Jackson Costume Party Lounge Sunday's lounge takes its cue from Michael's different eras without turning the evening into an impersonation contest. This is about inspiration not imitation. Motown. Off the Wall. Thriller. Bad. Dangerous. Michael. The lounge includes covered space adjacent to the stage, open-air viewing, comfortable seating, complimentary Cutwater Spirits while supplies last, refreshments, full bar access, giveaways and surprises. Costumes are welcome, never required. THE REST OF THE PARK ARTlanta isn't scenery for the music. Walk around. Buy some art. Atlanta artists will be exhibiting work throughout the festival through murals, installations, artistic builds and showcases representing different perspectives and corners of the city's creative community. Spend twenty minutes with something you didn't expect to like. Hear the song after the song you came to hear. Run into somebody. Stay longer than you planned. Bring somebody who's been here forever.
