Learn how to pinch, coil or slab build functional pottery. Using any or all of these handbulding methods, students will have the opportunity to produce 3-4 functional objects like mugs, bows, or plates. Students can decorate their wares with texture, stamping, embellishments, and other surfacing techniques. On the last day of the workshop, students will get to finish their work with colorful glazes.
This workshop is limited to participants 18+. There is a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 10. If the minimum is not met, participants will be refunded.
This workshop will be held on three consecutive days--January 21-23, 2022. The times are:

About Amy Smoot: Amy Smoot is from Carrollton, GA and currently resides in Tuscaloosa, AL. She received her BFA in ceramics from the University of West Georgia in 2015. While there, she was studio technician and research assistant in the ceramics area. In 2019 she received her MFA from The University of Alabama where she first began teaching ceramics as a graduate assistant. Her practice consists of all types of ceramics techniques including mold-making, slip-casting, hand building, and wheel thrown pottery.

This class will be held in our Georgine Clarke building at 1922 5th Street, Northport, AL 35476. The entrance is on 5th Street across from the Anders Hardware parking lot. Look for red sculptures out front and glass doors! There is a parking lot next to this building, and participants are also welcome to park in Downtown Northport.
