About the event
Come shop, play, tour and make memories during this 79-year-old tradition -- the Waterford Foundation's "Waterford Fair"! The Fair is the mid-Atlantic's quintessential fall festival with demonstrating fine heritage & contemporary craft artisans, living historians, a juried art show, historic properties tour, local libations, Waterford Craft School talks & workshops, and entertainment for all ages. Located in the National Historic Landmark of Waterford (f. 1733), this unique village is situated in Western Loudoun County, Virginia. Noted as "DC's Wine Country", we are only 50 minutes from the District of Columbia. Tickets go on sale in August. Children (12 & under) & Foundation members FREE! Ticket types: VIP, Early Bird (Fri only), youth, single day, military, 3-day passes and seniors (over 65). School, tour & large group organizers, we are excited to welcome your groups back to Waterford this year!  Shop, play and tour 1, 2 or 3 days! Click the START APPLICATION button to reserve your spot!

 

Due to the size of the event, we do require date/time reservations for your group's arrival. A docent will meet your group, delivering Fair tickets and event schedules, and will give a brief "welcome" talk before turning the group loose to enjoy the day. If you group is driving in seperate vehicles, we recommend you pick a rendezvous point and we will send your tickets to you ahead of time so you don't need to worry about who parked where. Reserved designated parking is available for pre-paid groups,  no matter your preferred mode of transport (e.g., van, bus, bicycles or motorcycles)!

 

FAIR DETAILS:

When: Oct. 6-8, 2023, 10 am - 5 pm daily

Where: National Historic Landmark of Waterford, Waterford, Virginia 20197 
Cost: For groups of 20+, One-day Fair tickets are $18 per person. We include two free tickets: one each for the driver and the tour guide. You will have the option to mail a check or pay online. Mulit-day passes are available. Contact the office for pricing.

Welcome to the Welcome Operations team! Join us to help make every Waterford Fair visitor feel welcomed, informed, relaxed, and ready to enjoy our wonderful Fair from the moment they enter the village. The Welcome Operations team is comprised of friendly volunteers who serve as greeters and sell tickets to our guests after they park and prepare to enter the Fair. Join us if you enjoy serving as an ambassador for our village and our Fair, and help make their first contact with our village a warm, positive and welcoming part of their experience. Volunteers on this team will be busy the entire shift welcoming visitors. They will welcome visitors, direct them to ticket sales, sell tickets, scan pre-paid tickets, hand out Fair booklets, answer questions, give tips and advice, and direct people to Fair areas or events. For afternoon shifts, you'll often be the last person Fair guests will see as they leave for their cars, which is one more chance to thank them and welcome them back next year.

Please let us know when you are available to help by completing this application. Opportunities include: • Waterford Craft School Tent Docent during Fair hours (4 hour shifts) which includes manning the tent, interacting with visitors, telling fairgoers about the Craft School, etc. (Don't worry if you are new or unfamiliar with the Craft School, all volunteers will be given all of the information they need before the Fair.) • Tent set-up and break down before and after the Fair (1 hour commitment for each) Thank you for considering volunteering your time. It truly takes a village for the Fair run smoothly year after year!

Inventory drop off will take place Friday, September 26-30. Appointments are scheduled in 30 minute blocks. Consignors with large volumes of inventory please schedule two consecutive blocks, for 60 minutes total. Inventory pick up will take place Monday, 10/9, and Saturday, October 14. Appointments are scheduled in 30 minute blocks. Consignors with large volumes of inventory please schedule two consecutive blocks, for 60 minutes total. We are so excited to welcome returning and new artists to the Fine Art Show & Sale and Art Mart at the 79th Fair!
Please complete this short online application for the Fine Art Exhibit, Art Mart or both, or if you prefer print out and mail the registration form along with your application fee check.
 
This year the Art Mart and Fine Art Exhibit are combined into one application. ART is located at the Red Barn, in the center of the of the village. Fine Art is in the upper level and Art Mart in the lower level.
 
We are proud of the quality of the art that is offered at the Waterford Fair and expect the Red Barn Exhibit to be a big hit with the Fair’s visitors!

The Fair is presented by the Waterford Foundation. Funds raised are used to preserve and protect the Waterford National Historic Landmark and to educate future generations about early life in rural America.
 
Please read the attached prospectus carefully as Art Mart and Fine Art criteria and processes differ. We recommend you download the prospectus and the important dates document to keep on hand for future reference.

The Fair is held in the National Historic Landmark village of Waterford. This unique setting gives the 80 juried, heritage and contemporary artisans, accepted as Demonstrating Artisans, a beautiful backdrop to demonstrate, sell their products and cultivate lasting relationships with loyal buyers.
 
The 15,000+ Fair visitors enjoy strolling the streets of the Landmark, taking in the history of this 18th c. Quaker village, touring historic homes, learning about the Artisans and their work, and purchasing their wares. Fair organizers cater to all artistic preferences and budgets of the attendees. The result is a tasteful selection of high-quality, handmade items juried in eleven (11) media categories.
 
Founded in 1733, Waterford is situated in western Loudoun County, DC’s wine country. For the past twelve years Loudoun County, Virginia has been name the #1 county in America for the highest median household income. In 2021 income was reported to be $156,821 according to U.S. Census Bureau reports. The second highest rated county, Fairfax, is our easterly neighbor.
 
The funds raised by the Waterford Fair support the preservation and education efforts of the Waterford Foundation, a 501(c)(3).  Over the years, artisans have come to appreciate the warmth of the “Waterford welcome” and the support they receive from our well-educated and loyal clientele, villagers, and volunteers. Many artisans take advantage of our Homestay Program and stay with local residents, foregoing hotels and the associated expenses.
 
Registration Fee Early Bird Savings: apply by before 5 pm on March 10 and save $10 (reg. $40)!

We would like savory and sweet offerings, traditional fair and gourmet options, as well as coffee, tea, and other refreshing, non-alcoholic drinks to keep our crowds fed and happy! You are welcome to participate in 1, 2 or all 3 days of the Fair. Our fees are based on a percentage of your sales paid after the Fair, less the deposit required with the application fee.

The Dried Flower sale is located at the western end of the village at the Bond Street Barn, Bond Street, Waterford, VA 20197, just up Bond Street from the John Wesley Church.
