COMPETITION
1. Contestants will turn in a typed essay of 500 words or less on the topic: Preserving and
Promoting Czech Heritage. The introductory paragraph of the essay must contain
contestants name, address, birth date, name of school or college they are currently enrolled
in and Czech descent information such as, but not limited to, parents, grandparents and
great grandparents. The village of family origin in the Czech Republic, if known, can be
included, but is not required. Essays must be turned in by August 18 by 12:00 pm at the
Burleson County Chamber of Commerce – Caldwell office 301 N. Main. Late essays will not
be accepted.
2. Czech kroj (costume) is required at the presentation at the opening ceremonies.
3. Winner will be announced at the opening ceremonies of the Kolache Festival.
4. Winner will receive a $500 scholarship; payable after proof of enrollment in a college or
technical school is submitted.
WINNER RESPONSIBILITIES
The winner must be present at 9:00 a.m. for the opening ceremonies of the Kolache Festival, wearing their Czech kroj, and stay at the festival throughout the day to visit the various venues, car show, antique equipment show, quilt show and to be present during the awards ceremony for the Kolache Bake Show. The winner must be prepared to represent the festival at other various Czech related events throughout the year.
Possible appearances to include:
Burleson County Fair Parade, Czech Heritage/Cultural events in La Grange, Temple, West and other
possible Central Texas events.
Winner is responsible for providing transportation to these events and will receive a travel reimbursement when traveling over 25 miles to an event to promote the Caldwell Kolache Festival. Winner is also responsible for arranging their own car, truck or float for the Burleson County Fair Parade.
