About the event
Carnaval San Francisco brings 500,000 people to our annual celebration, making it the largest multicultural festival in the West Coast. Our mission is to educate people on the Latino, Caribbean and African Diasporic traditions of the Mission District and the San Francisco Bay Area.Our free, two–day Festival covers 17 blocks in the Mission District, with five main stages, 50 local performing artists, and 400 vendors. The festival includes international food, dancing, sampling sites and entertainment for families, couples and friends of all ethnic, social and economic backgrounds.

Event Dates: Saturday, May 29 & Sunday, May 30, 2027 Event Time: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm (both days) Volunteer Shifts: Vary depending on volunteer position Volunteer Perks * Free lunch provided to all volunteers * Carnaval SF volunteer t-shirt (for those who signed up before the orientation) Mandatory Volunteer Orientation All volunteers must attend one of the following orientation options: * In-Person Orientation: Saturday, May 15 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM * Online Orientation: Tuesday, May 18 | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM We strongly encourage attending the in-person orientation for the best experience and walk-through. If you cannot attend in person, you must attend the online option. In the application, you’ll be asked to select your preferred orientation.

This application is for artists performing on the Carnaval San Francisco Festival stages. 

 

*Note: This is not the application for the parade performers, exhibitors, and vendors.

 

This is an application of interest and not an approval of performance. You will receive an email in regards to acceptance if we are interested in moving forward. Notifications in regards to performance are typically given as soon as the beginning of March.

 

Eligibility Note: Artists and bands who performed at Carnaval San Francisco 2026 are not eligible to perform in 2027. They may reapply for consideration in 2028. This policy helps ensure equity in artist selection and provides opportunities for a diverse range of performers each year.

This application is ONLY for comparsas and dance groups interested in performing on the Comparsa Stage on Saturday, May 29 or Sunday, May 30, 2027 on 21st Street between Harrison and Alabama Streets.

 

Definition of a comparsa:
A comparsa is an artistic, street theater performance group with its own theme, cast of dancers, musicians, other performers, with choreography, costumes, props, and floats. A comparsa creates a new theme for each annual Carnaval San Francisco. To express this theme a comparsa builds a new float, choreographs new dances, performs new music, and sews/buys new costumes.

 

Stage Dimensions: 20' x 20'

 

Tech equipment is limited. Please plan to bring your own instruments and backline. There is limited access to mics, mic stands, and monitors.
