The first SantaCaliGon Days festival was held in 1940 to celebrate the unique heritage of the City of Independence as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails. A second celebration was held after World War II in 1947. The festival was not held again until 1973.
In 53 years, the SCG has evolved into one of the nations premier FREE festivals, drawing more than 200,000 people each Labor Day weekend.

Location
Parking instructions
Parking is available on the blocks surrounding the Independence Square. Additionally, a shuttle runs from the Community of Christ Auditorium parking lot to the Square throughout the festival, for just $1 per person. Handicap parking is available at Lynn and Truman Rd and Lynn and Kansas St with a handicap sticker, or hang tag.
