Original painting of a dollhouse diorama by artist Rachael Grad. Painting with acrylic paint on highest quality canvas board measuring 16" x 12" (40.64 cm x 30.48 cm). For this painting, I set up a diorama scene incorporating my original travel photographs from 2019, used palette paper, and painting scraps in the background and on the walls and floor, along with dollhouse furniture from my childhood. The objects and elements are personal ones that I either created, captured or experienced. Pieces of the dollhouse furniture were made by me in my teens so the objects and images in this diorama and painting are very personal ones.
Diorama Scenes for Painting at Home
I painted from observation of the diorama, slowly building up thin layers of paint on wood panel. Since lockdown in March, I've been revisiting my travel photography, drawings and paintings and using them to create new artwork at home. This painting is a way for me to travel from home by combining my travel photographs, sketches, memories and childhood mementos with a carefully controlled and idealized version of a living space.
The original artwork is signed on the back and was painted in July 2020. Please note that the RachaelGrad.com writing is for web purposes only and is not on the actual painting. This original painting ships directly from my art studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
