My newer body work’s purpose, beginning with this self portrait, is to analyze and communicate what it means and feels like to be analyzed. By visually breaking open the top of the figure’s head, tilting the glasses on the figure, and yet portraying a deliriously happy facial expression, this piece questions the contradiction of the narrative.
The colors and patterns on the shirt and the surrounding seemingly upbeat color in the figure’s environment offers a happiness and an uplifting emotional state. This contradiction of the emotional state of the figure’s face to some of the other crooked and obscure elements on the figure offers a narrative to be questioned and wondered by the viewer.
