Hi! I'm Jessa. A few of my working titles are wife, Mom, self-taught artist, and small business owner. Prior to 2020, my creativity was channeled into writing. In a year of dramatic changes, my focus shifted to painting. Lucien Freud said, "What do I ask of a painting? I ask it to astonish, disturb, seduce, convince." Art is thought, emotion, and action made visible. Which is an incredibly powerful thing. The pieces are telling a story. One image can define generations of society, be it the historical religious imagery, traditional still life, portraits, impressionism, wartime propaganda, or photographs. In writing, I create images with words. It's been freeing to create stories with color. I find experience inspiring. It can be a vivid memory of someplace, a word that intrigues, or a fantastical daydream. I take those influences add some pouring medium and acrylic paint then use an arsenal of techniques. The end result is my work you see here.
