People for Palmer Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation, revitalization, and viability of Palmer Park, a treasured Detroit public park, for the good of all. PFPP organizes yoga, t'ai chi, walking and biking groups, an award-winning Tennis Academy, gardening, concerts, story times, and other activities for all ages. Our free, annual family-friendly events include Log Cabin Day, WinterFest, Harvest Fest, and Art Fair, which include arts, culture, and educational enrichment intertwined with intergenerational fun.
PFPP is the "Adopt-a-Park" partner with the City of Detroit and collaborates with community volunteers and stakeholders to organize healthy recreational opportunities, events, and programs, as well as to improve and beautify the park and its natural resources.
Palmer Park is comprised of 296 acres of lawns and historic woodlands, new tennis courts, handball courts, splash park, hiking and biking trails, Lake Frances, a historic log cabin, community gardens, and more.
PFPP's vision is to create an urban oasis, regional destination, and daily recreation site that will promote an active and healthy community, and a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for all.
We believe that with the collective energy, efforts, and talents of the people who use and love the park, it can be revitalized to its fullest potential and restored to what Senator Palmer envisioned when he donated the land for the park in the late 1800s: “a park for the good of everyone.”
