Hi my name is Holly! I make all kinds of jewelry! Currently I am making bee jewelry and clay jewelry. I have been a artist since I can remember. I started out with just drawing and painting and it became a labor of love over many years. I find that I love to draw with pen and ink most. I tend to like contrast because of the way that it makes your eyes move around the paper. I use black paper with white jelly roll or Uniball pens. I am also very deeply woven into the art of fiber arts mainly crochet. I absolutely love to make scarves, blankets, scrunchies, purses or bags, and baby items. I learned how to crochet in third grade with my teacher Mrs. Paradise making potholders for my mother I was transformed into a crochet fiber artist. I learned how to paint with oil watercolor and other mediums of paint when I was in college. I had the most wonderfully magical art teacher in college that just showed me the beauty of how to make watercolor acrylic tempera oil just magical looking. And I love to paint it’s such a soothing Experience honestly. So free flowing! I also do what they call sound art I don’t know if that’s what they call it but that’s what I call it. I take all kinds of things that I find around my 6 acres of land and I attach it to canvases. They would be considered natural art you take what you have around you and create something beautiful. I take wood and make it into a beautiful design I take old pinecone bodies and attach to canvas and make a beautiful piece of art. So I wear many hats when it comes to art. You know how long your journey you find all these different types of art that you fall in love with and I just keep falling in love with art over and over again.
When I was a child I had a private art teacher, in high school I had wonderfully inspiring teachers that were more like friends that I learned so much from and as an adult in college I had great art teachers. I’ve had ceramics teachers painting teachers jewelry teachers art teachers you name it I’ve had that type of teacher. It’s been a blessing growing up in the art world because it is giving me such a wonderful outlet!
The name Snap Dragon came from my grandfather on my mom’s side. When we were kids he never called us by our first name, we all had nicknames and mine was Snap Dragon. In the search for a name for my business, part of my art background comes from that side of the family so it is in ode to my Grandpa W!
I started my Jewelry business later in life, even though I have been doing commissions for years. I never really put it down on paper and gave myself a business name and number until my husband! My husband and my daughter are my biggest supporters!! I don’t know what I would do without them they are my life and honestly they are my muses for everything I create! They are always giving me ideas it’s amazing how creative the two of them are when they see me making something they give me 10 more ideas, it’s beautiful! I wish people had that kind of support that I have! They love me in every stage of my life and they always support my ideas!
The best advice I was ever given, way back when, was, always share your art! So many people don’t share with they use where they buy stuff from and they forget that one day we won’t be here. Always share your craft always share your connections always share the beauty of art because it is meant to be passed on like memories in a family!
Join me on my journey through the second part of my life! – Holly
