I paint on raw silk with fiber reactive silk dyes. The silk has a lovely patina and being handwoven has lots of texture which gives a great dimension to the painting. The silk dyes are steamed into the silk after multiple applications and layering. the depth of color achieved through this process is an integral part of the painting's language , or the ability to "speak" to the viewer. My subjects are botanical or botanical in nature , as that is my inspiration. I look for the essence and with the hope that the viewer can also have the joy of experience of the plants as I do.
The paintings are framed in museum quality material. Some are with a traditional mat and frame and others in a box frame within which the painting is floated. A floated painting has been dry mounted onto a mat board . Paintings cn be done either way. I always use a uv plexiglass to protect the painting from light. Please feel free to ask any questions.
