About the event
Get a peak into clay hand building with this one day class! Using beginner friendly methods like pinching and slab building, students will learn how to construct a simple project with clay. Each class will have a different project theme. Work will be glazed by the instructor, but students will have their pick from either a clear, white, blue, or green glaze. Materials and tools are included in tuition. Sessions are as follows: July 10, 6-7:30pm; Clay To Go Cups August 14, 6-7:30pm; Weaving with Clay September 11, 6-7:30pm; Wall Pocket/Wall Planter All experience levels are welcome! There is a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 15 students. If the class fails to meet the minimum, participants will be refunded. No refunds will be given once registration closes. About Amy Smoot: Amy Smoot is the Clay Studio Manager at Kentuck. She is from Carrollton, GA and currently resides in Tuscaloosa, AL. She received her BFA in ceramics from the University of West Georgia in 2015. While there, she was studio technician and research assistant in the ceramics area. In 2019 she received her MFA from The University of Alabama where she first began teaching ceramics as a graduate assistant. Her practice consists of all types of ceramics techniques including mold-making, slip-casting, hand building, and wheel thrown pottery.  Amy began teaching for Kentuck in 2021 and join Kentuck's staff as Clay Studio Manager in 2023. This workshop is sponsored in part by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Parking instructions
This class will be held in Kentuck's Clay Studio at 2014 5th Street. The entrance is in the Courtyard of Wonders. Look for the green door and trim! There are two parking lots next to the Courtyard of Wonders, and participants are also welcome to park in Downtown Northport.
