State of the Womb Art Unveiling

Starts on Friday, January 23rd, 2026
Baltimore, Maryland, United States
About the event
The Baltimore City Office of Equity and Civil Rights and Baltimore City’s Women’s Commission invite you to join us for the unveiling of State of the Womb, a new community-created mosaic centered on Black perinatal health. Conceived in October 2025 during a community convening held as part of Baltimore City’s Civil Rights Week, the artwork was created through a participatory process that invited community members, advocates, practitioners, and agency partners to physically shape the piece while engaging in dialogue about the intersecting factors that influence maternal health, including race, policy, access to care, safety, and wellbeing. The mosaic is accompanied by a set of maternal health priorities shaped by the voices and experiences shared during the community convening that inspired the artwork. Together, the mosaic and these priorities reflect the deep connection between lived experience, creative expression, and meaningful change, standing as a lasting civic record of community-identified needs in maternal and perinatal health. The Office of Equity and Civil Rights (OECR) and Baltimore City Women’s Commission are hosting the event in partnership with Empact Art and Morgan State University. The piece is being gifted to Morgan State University as a symbol of partnership, and ongoing dialogue in advancing maternal health equity. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us for this meaningful evening of art, advocacy, and community! Learn more about the Women’s Commission and OECR at The mosaic is accompanied by a maternal health–focused policy priority list developed directly from the community convening that informed the artwork, affirming the connection between lived experience, creative expression, and policy change.
