About the event
Yuma Hamfest & ARRL Southwestern Division Convention The 17th Annual Yuma Hamfest is the site of the ARRL's premier event for the Southwest in 2022, The Southwestern Division Convention. The Yuma Hamfest has two aspects. It is a hamfest for Amateur Radio enthusiasts, complete with commercial exhibits, seminars, license testing and tailgating. For members of the general public, it is a trade show for emergency and disaster preparedness, with informational presentations and displays of emergency supplies and equipment. There are hourly drawings for door prizes both Friday and Saturday. The numbers will be posted just inside the main Theater Building. You must be onsite to win the door prizes and claim them by 5:00 p.m. Saturday. On Saturday evening, in what has established itself as an annual tradition, the Buzzard Barbecue will be held in the Theater Building. Additional door prizes are given away following the barbecue dinner. And then at the end of the evening, we hold what has become the highlight of the Yuma Hamfest, the Grand Prize drawings. For several years the Yuma Hamfest focused primarily on amateur radio, especially the emergency communications aspects of that hobby. Starting with the 2009 event, the event was expanded to include all facets of emergency and disaster preparedness. Would you know what to do if your home was without power, telephone service or water for ten days? By attending the Yuma Hamfest, you can find out the answer. Last, but not least, there is a full seminar program scheduled for both Friday and Saturday. We have a selection of seminars at three different times on Friday and six different times on Saturday, presented in separate buildings on the fairgrounds. Seminar presentations on radio and emergency preparedness topics are planned. A list of seminars and their times can be found on the seminar link for this site. Historical Attractions
The Yuma Territorial Prison State Park is a must-see attraction if you have never been there. Located just off Giss Parkway on Prison Hill Road, this is one of the top attractions of its kind in the country. Between 1876 and 1909, this partially-restored penitentiary housed many of Arizona's most dangerous and notorious criminals. Made famous in movies, literature and television, the remains of the prison are now Arizona's most visited State Historic Park. There are multiple tours every day. Call (928) 783-4771 to check the times. Plan on spending several hours there if possible. The Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park is another interesting historical attraction in Yuma. The Quartermaster Depot was authorized by Congress in 1865 and served the entire Southwest as a material transfer and distribution point for troops stationed at the outposts of the Arizona Territory. There is a museum at the site and a few structures from the depot's active period are still standing. There is also a 1907 Southern Pacific steam locomotive and coach car. Located at 210 North 4th Avenue. The Sanguinetti House Museum is a museum of the Arizona Historical Society, and is one of Yuma's oldest and most historic buildings. Once the home of pioneer merchant E. F. Sanguinetti, the museum now exhibits artifacts, photographs and furnishings of Arizona's territorial period. Colorful gardens and aviaries with exotic and talking birds are maintained as they were at the turn of the century. The museum, library & gift shop are open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The St. Thomas Mission is just across the Colorado River from downtown Yuma. Built on the grounds of the original Mission founded by Father Garces in 1780, the Mission is a reminder of the long history of the Quechan Indian Nation and Yuma. The present Catholic Mission Church was built in 1922 and is a replica of the original Mission that was destroyed during an Indian uprising in 1855. Open during services on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 7:30, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Call (760) 572-0283.

Description
Tailgating (Swap Meet) Fees Tailgating fees are for the entire weekend. Most tailgaters who are not camping will be placed on the large concrete pad used for that purpose. Tailgaters can opt to be placed in another area of the fairgrounds on an as-available basis. Please note that tailgaters still must pay the admission charge if they want to enter the Theater Building to look at the commercial exhibits or attend the seminars. Important: You are considered a commercial vendor (and not a tailgater) if more than 10% of the items you offer for sale are new. Tailgating Like many hamfests, the Yuma Hamfest has tailgating (or a swap meet or flea market if you prefer) where people sell their used stuff. Most of the tailgating takes place outdoors on the fairgrounds. With 100 acres of fairgrounds under us, it is not necessary to use a parking lot. The tailgating is under the open sky, though the fairgrounds also has a large covered canopy area and a few tailgaters like to use that area. Other tailgaters sell from their RV camping spots (also right on the grounds). The Country Store, located in the Theater Building, is a consignment sales area where we sell people's used stuff for them for a 10% consignment fee. Lots of bargains can be found there as well. Look at the Hamfest Map which shows the fairgrounds layout for the hamfest. Location "H" is where most of the tailgaters will be, though a few usually choose to be under the structure marked "G". See the Fees page for the costs to tailgate.
