About the event
Interested in creating a mural? Fill out the interest form below to add your name to the growing list of muralists working in East Tennessee! Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and funding will be distributed as space becomes available. Dogwood Arts has funded the creation and restoration of over 65 murals in East Tennessee since 2019. Efforts have primarily been focused in Strong Alley (between Market Square and Gay Street), which has been a popular canvas for artists and a creative destination for visitors for decades. In addition to our work in Strong Alley, our public art program also facilitates connections between artists and other organizations/businesses seeking to create murals in East Tennessee. Application Recommendations: Complete the form below and upload 3-5 artwork samples that reflect your design aesthetic and ability to create a large-scale mural (samples do not specifically have to be past mural work). Do not submit sketches, renderings, or design proposals for a new mural - only submit completed artworks. If selected, you will then submit a design proposal of the mural for final review. If your artwork samples include collaborations, please credit your team in the artist statement section.

Terms & Conditions
Strong Alley Murals: To further advance existing creative efforts in Strong Alley (Downtown Knoxville between Gay Street and Market Square), we connect artists with resources and opportunities to produce murals in the alleyway. Artists may apply for funding to cover supplies, equipment, and other needs related to the creation of new artwork or the restoration of an existing piece. Dogwood Arts will award stipends to select artists ranging from $500-$1,000, depending on the final size of the piece (most pieces in Strong Alley are between 10'x10' and 10'x20'). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and funding will be distributed as space becomes available. Artist Stipends & Funding Guideline: After the initial qualifications & artwork sample submissions are reviewed, we will reach out as mural opportunities arise. If invited to participate, artists will submit a sketch, rendering, or design proposal for final review. Artists should limit content related to politics, violence, lewdness, logos, copyright images, cartoon characters, etc. A funding stipend will be provided to cover costs related to the completion of a single mural for the alley. This may include artwork conception, design edits, art supplies, various installation materials, equipment rentals, onsite production time, etc.
