Airports
LaGuardia (LGA) is the closest and easiest airport to Manhattan, period. From Midtown Manhattan (like Times Square), LGA is about 10 miles away. Without traffic, it’s 20-30 minutes by car. Plan for at least an hour, sometimes more.
Trains/Subways do not service Laguardia, but Metro buses do
Newark (EWR) is located in New Jersey, about 25 minutes west of Manhattan. The train ride from EWR to NYC’s Penn Station takes about 45 minutes, which makes it super convenient if you’re staying on the West Side of Manhattan or in Midtown.
JFK is the furthest from Manhattan. It’s located at the southeastern edge of Queens, and getting to Manhattan from JFK takes the longest. By car, it’s typically 45-60 minutes to Midtown without traffic, and can easily be 90 minutes or more with traffic. The Air Train services JFK.
All Airports offer private shuttle services by bus or van and rideshare
The way to think about Manhattan is a grid...Avenues run North and South, and Streets run East to West. If you get lost on the subway the best thing to remember is get to Times Square, ALL trains go to Times Square, and you can ‘reset” your trip
Subway & Bus
Mass transit is the best way to get around. Simply use your smart phone or contactless card to tap with OMNY at the subway or on buses. OMNY is the easiest way to pay. Visit . You can set up Apple Pay for secure payment each time you swipe at the turnstile.
Download the MTA app for iOS or Android.
Travel By Ferry
If you plan to stay outside of Manhattan, the NYC Ferry offers reliable and convenient transportation across NYC's waterways. Tickets are 4.50 one-way and can be purchased by visiting ferry.nyc and downloading the NYC Ferry app for tickets, service alerts, and real-time schedules.
Hotels/ Lodging
Note: Airbnb is not allowed with the 5 boroughs. However, across the Hudson River is New Jersey and they are full of them. It's an easy water taxi or train across to Manhattan
