We’re looking for talented performers to join our Family-Friendly Comic Con Variety Show. If you have a fun, geeky act that’s appropriate for all ages, we want to see it.

Seeking:

  • Cosplay skits
  • Clean comedy
  • Music (covers, parodies, originals)
  • Dance (Themed choreography)
  • Magic or specialty acts with a fandom twist
  • String Instrumentals to popular theme songs

Guidelines:

  • 3–6 minutes in length
  • G or PG-rated material only
  • Performers provide their own costumes and props

Performers Receive:

  • A featured performance slot
  • An official event T-shirt and swag

We’re looking for energetic performers to play NPCs in a D&D-inspired interactive experience on May 1st from 6:00-8:00 pm prior to a D&D-themed Dad's Garage show. Call time will be 5:00 pm sharp. Guests will journey through six NPC encounters on their way to seek favor from the King/Queen, completing challenges that test Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.

This is a fantasy, roleplay-heavy experience, perfect for cosplayers, improv actors, or anyone who loves D&D and storytelling.

NPCs will:

  1. Invite guests and present a short task (2–3 min)
  2. Guide a D20 roll (+2 for task success, –2 for task failure, natural 20 = automatic favor)
  3. React dramatically based on the role:
  • High rolls: attention, secrets, shortcuts, or a Token
  • Medium rolls: simple directions
  • Low rolls: playful suspicion but still guide guests

    Encounters include:
  • Tavern Keeper – Test of Constitution (resist a “poisoned” drink)
  • Bodyguard – Test of Strength (arm wrestle)
  • Poet – Test of Charisma (finish a poem)
  • Aerialist – Test of Dexterity (obstacle challenge)
  • Court Vizier – Test of Intelligence (solve a puzzle)
  • Blind Seer – Test of Wisdom (morality check with a hidden token)

    Requirements:
  • Comfortable improvising and performing in character
  • Welcoming and playful with guests
  • Able to keep interactions brief and fun
  • Remain family-friendly at all times

Audition Components
1. Wardrobe
Wear neutral, comfortable clothing in earth tones (browns, greens, creams, or grays) with a fantasy or medieval vibe. Layers, scarves, vests, or boots are great. Avoid modern logos or graphics. We will provide key props and signature items (hats, aprons, sashes, etc.) to bring your NPC to life. Focus on the character and have fun!

2. Slate:
Please state your name and which character you are auditioning for.

3. Monologue
Record the following monologue in character. (Feel free to make creative changes where you see fit) (30-45 seconds)
Example:

"Ah, greetings, traveler! You’ve come a long way to seek the Queen’s favor, haven’t you? I see determination in your eyes… and perhaps a bit of doubt. But worry not! Every challenge you face is a step toward proving your loyalty.  Take heed, though… the choices you make here ripple far beyond these halls."

4. Improv & Roll Reactions
For each audition, prepare:

  • Invitation to the Task: 1–2 sentences inviting guests to your challenge, showing NPC personality.
  • High / Medium / Low Roll Reactions: 1–2 sentences for each outcome:
    • High Roll: Celebrate success, give attention, secrets, or a Token.
    • Medium Roll: Politely guide the guest to the next step.
    • Low Roll: Be suspicious or playful, but still let the guest continue.

Keep it fast, engaging, and fun. Interactions will be 3-5 minutes max in the live experience.
