About the event
Faith, Identity & Healing: A Provider’s Guide to Supporting LGBTQ+ Clients Navigating Religious Trauma Join the Compass LGBTQ+ Mental Health Collaborative for a trauma-informed training exploring the intersection of religious experience, identity, and resilience in LGBTQ+ communities. This session offers practical guidance for providers supporting clients impacted by religious rejection, conflict, or spiritual distress, while honoring the diverse ways people relate to faith and meaning. Participants will learn strategies to: • Understand the impact of religious trauma on identity and belonging • Support clients navigating grief, conflict, or identity reconstruction • Provide LGBTQ+-affirming and trauma-informed care • Build self-awareness around personal beliefs and bias • Create healing-centered and empowering care environments This training recognizes that LGBTQ+ clients may leave faith communities, redefine belief systems, or maintain connection — and supports providers in meeting clients where they are with compassion and respect. Presenter Ray Possen, LCSW, CCTP, EMDR (he/him) Licensed Clinical Social Worker & Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Ray specializes in trauma, identity development, and LGBTQ+-affirming care. Drawing on clinical expertise and lived experience, his work supports individuals healing from religious and identity-based trauma through an integrative and compassionate approach focused on restoring safety, authenticity, and connection.
