About the event
Join us for the Taste of Christmas: Baking for Charity, a festive community event celebrating holiday flavors, family fun, and giving back! Hosted at Hand Picked Nursery’s 25-acre farm on Friday, December 6th from 11 AM to 3 PM, this exciting event invites bakers of all levels to showcase their talents in one of three delicious categories: Best Cookie, Best Pie, and Best Cake.
The entry fee is $75, which includes your sample station setup and space to sell your baked goods during the event. Contestants are asked to prepare enough product to provide samples for at least 600 attendees, with each sample being a 4 oz. portion. These samples will be sold to the public through ticket purchases, and proceeds will be distributed as follows: 65% to the contestant, 30% to our two featured charities — the Boys & Girls Clubs of Johnston County and Forward Operating Base (FOB), and 5% to administrative costs.
Each category will award first, second, and third place prizes. First-place winners will receive $100 cash and a $100 Hand Picked Nursery gift card. Second place will receive a $20 Hand Picked Nursery gift card, and third place will receive a $10 Hand Picked Nursery gift card. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your creations, connect with the community, grow your local audience, and compete for prizes — all while giving back to two incredible causes this holiday season.

Parking instructions
For Attendees: We have a parking lot in the front of the garden center and over flow parking. Staff and signs will be helping to direct the overflow parking.
For Vendors: You can park in the main parking lot. After setting up, we will have vendors move to an alternate parking lot on the backside of the property.

Hand Picked Nursery Baking Contest & Hand Picked Animal Experience
By purchasing a ticket to participate in the tasting portion of the Hand Picked Nursery Baking Contest and/or interact with animals during the event, you (the "Ticket Holder") agree to the following terms and conditions:
1. Ticket Use
Each ticket grants access to sample baked goods from the contest and/or admission to the animal experience area.
Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable, and valid only for the designated event date and location.
Hand Picked Nursery reserves the right to limit participation based on crowd size or safety considerations.
2. Food Safety Disclaimer
Individual contestants prepare all baked goods and may not use commercial kitchens.
Hand Picked Nursery does not guarantee the accuracy of ingredient labeling or allergen disclosures.
Ticket holders with food allergies or dietary restrictions assume all responsibility and consume at their own risk.
3. Animal Experience Disclaimer
The animal experience is designed to be both fun and educational, involving interaction with live animals.
All animals are handled with care, but animal behavior can be unpredictable.
Children must be supervised at all times.
Hand Picked Nursery is not liable for any injury, allergic reaction, or damage resulting from contact with animals at the event.
4. Liability Waiver
By participating in this event and engaging in any activities, including but not limited to food sampling and animal interaction, you voluntarily assume all associated risks.
Hand Picked Nursery, its staff, volunteers, vendors, affiliates, and event organizers shall not be held liable for any injury, illness, loss, or damages incurred during the event.
5. Media Release
By entering the event space, you consent to the use of your likeness in photography, video, or audio recordings taken during the event for promotional and marketing purposes.
6. Code of Conduct
Attendees must be respectful and courteous to fellow guests, volunteers, bakers, and animals.
Unsafe, disruptive, or inappropriate behavior will result in immediate removal from the premises without refund.
