About this event
It's not a pie at all, but rather a creamy filling layered between two soft cookies, this classic confection has been a favorite of Mainers for over a century. For much of that time, the whoopie pie was a locals-only delicacy. Since 2009, the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival has been gathering the best bakers from around New England to offer samples and compete for prizes and bragging rights. And in 2011, the whoopie pie became Maine's Official State Treat! At the festival, you can exchange tokens (wooden nickels) for samples of the more than 100 varieties of whoopie pies. When you find your favorite, buy some for the road or the freezer! There's plenty of other food, games, vendors, artists, and crafters too! Get your tokens, VIP parking, or entrance passes in advance [at our store](https://center-theatre.square.site/) to get to the whoopie pies that much faster! ##### All That Piscataquis ##### Has to Offer The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is the largest annual event in Piscataquis County. We're thrilled to introduce so many people to the community we love, but there's no way to do it all in one day! Whether you are looking for beach time, boating, and excellent fishing at Sebec Lake; quiet hikes on the Appalachian Trail; exploring our welcoming, walkable communities; or live theater and movies at [the Center Theatre](https://www.centertheatre.org/), we know once you visit Piscataquis County you'll want to return. When people think about where they want to spend their work week, raise their children, experience the beauty of nature, or eventually retire, quality of life is a major factor. We have that, right here in the friendly communities, cultural heritage, wooded pathways, and pristine waters of Piscataquis County. For more information on Piscataquis, visit the [Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce](http://www.piscataquischamber.com), [Destination Moosehead Lake](http://www.destinationmooseheadlake.com), and [the Maine Highlands.](http://themainehighlands.com) ###### DID YOU KNOW? The world's largest whoopie pie weighed in at 1,000 pounds and was created in South Portland, Maine in 2011. Sections of the giant whoopie pie were sold and the money was used to send whoopie pies to soldiers overseas. ###### DID YOU KNOW? In 2002 Ben & Jerry's created an ice cream flavor that was called "Makin' Whoopie Pie." Unfortunately it was discontinued. #### Discover ##### Fun for the Whole Family For one glorious day, festival attendees have the opportunity to sample the whoopie pie in a wide variety of creative flavor combinations and vote for their favorites. But we do know you can't just eat whoopie pies from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (believe us, we've tried), so there are plenty of other things do to at the festival. Start your day off as a spectator or participant at the "Earn Your Whoopie Pie 3K Race/Walk" at 8 a.m., then browse and enjoy the arts, crafts, and foods offered by more than 100 vendors while listening to live music. There are also rides and games for kids of all ages, whoopie pie eating contests, and more. Check out the [Activities Page](https://www.mainewhoopiepiefestival.com/activitiesalt) for all the details! Whoopie!
