Do you love creating food and art? Then you should enter our ChristmasVille Gingerbread House Contest. Fly solo or get together with family or friends and try your hand at this fun holiday tradition. Grab your mixer, bake your house, decorate away, and share your creation with the community.
HOW TO ENTER:
First: Research a theme. Locate your favorite gingerbread house recipe. Bake your gingerbread for your creation, assemble, and decorate. Take 4 photos.
Then: Describe your creation. What is your theme? Why did you choose it? Perhaps it’s a family tradition or you just wanted some together fun. Tell us special things about your creation.
Finally: Upload your pictures below and dropoff your creation. Details below. If you want to upload to social media, tag us at #ChristmasVilleGB
Drop-off & Pick-Up: Your entry will be displayed at a Rock Hill business. Once you enter you will receive instructions on where and when to drop off your entry. Mark your calendars. Entries must be dropped off before 5pm on December 3. Entries will be on display until December 17th. If you wish to pick up your entry please do so on December 18th by 5pm. You must indicate such on your application otherwise your entry will be discarded on December 19th.
Non-edible items: (i.e. candy wrappers, Popsicle sticks, lights). The Gingerbread house must be constructed of completely edible ingredients (i.e. gingerbread, cookies, candies, crackers, chocolate, etc.) House must be on a self-supporting base or board no larger than 24” x 24.” The entire structure may be no taller than 2 feet at the highest point. Except for the base, the entry must be made completely of edible products and the structure must be primarily of gingerbread. Recipes for both basic gingerbread and royal icing are available on-line at www.pastrywiz.com/cakes/gingerbread. Edible materials are not limited to sweets. No artificial display materials such as Styrofoam, interior lighting, or landscaping are to be used in the construction. All candies/materials must be unwrapped and free of any inedible materials.
Size, Subject, and Judging Criteria:
The gingerbread entry may not exceed 2 feet in height, including the board/material used for the base, and may not exceed 2 feet in width or depth. It is suggested you use 1/2” or 3/4” plywood for the bases. Creations may be submitted under one of the following categories: Youth (12 and under); Teen (13-19): Adults; Professional (earn a living in baking).
Houses are judged on the following criteria: overall appearance; originality; creative impression; and difficulty. All rulings by the judges are final and are in no way influenced by anyone associated with the City of Rock Hill. The public will be invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award by donating one dollar per vote for their favorite entry. Donations will benefit the Center for The Arts
Downtown gift cards will be awarded at each of the following levels:
All contestants and their guests must honor the mask requirement during the drop-off and pick up at each designated location. The public will have the opportunity to visit each location and vote utilizing a QR code.
