About this application


1.      Participants must complete registration through the NC Whirligig Festival website.

2.      The contest is open to the first 50 participants that complete the contest.

3.      The main contact on the registration must be 16 years of age or older.

4.      Participants have 2 options for completing the Whirligig Trivia contest participants must.

a.      Option 1:

·        Go to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park on their own schedule anytime during October.

·        Open the trivia contest with the link connecting to the Kahoots APP.

·        Answer the trivia questions as quickly as possible to obtain a high score.

·        Submit your score through the registration process. (scores will be confirmed)

·        Submit a photo of yourself in the Whirligig Park through the registration process.

b.      Option 2:

·        Download the Trivia Challenge Questionnaire.

·        Go to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park on their own schedule anytime during October.

·        Answer the trivia questions on the questionnaire.

·        Scan or take a picture of the questionnaire and upload it through the registration process.

c.      The deadline for completing the trivia contest is during Whirligig Week on Wednesday, November 4 at 8 pm.

5.      The judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The judges will be comprised of the VSWP staff and festival planning team. The 1st place prize will include a $100 cash prize. Remaining prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor and includes festival merchandise items.

6.      The winners will be selected based on highest scores. 

7.      The winners will be announced during Whirligig Weekend on Saturday, November 7 on the festival’s social media. The festival team will reach out to the winners through the contact information provided on the registration form.

8.      Winners may pick up their Prize Pack the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 7, Sunday, Nov. 8. or make individual appointments with the festival team during the following week. Time is of the essence. Prize packs not claimed by Friday, Nov. 13 will be forfeited.

All contest entries become the property of the NC Whirligig Festival. All participants must follow the National and State guidelines for COVID 19 to protect and ensure the health and safety of the community. As part of submission participants give permission to use images and name as withing the festival publicity. All participants vow to hold harmless the festival, any associated sponsor and organizations.  

About the event
This is the 16th year of the annual North Carolina Whirligig Festival. The event started as a way to celebrate what was unique to Wilson, NC - the innovative and whimsical folk art whirligigs created by Vollis Simpson. At the heart of the festival is a park containing 30 of the giant medal structures that spin in the wind. The festival includes home-made arts and crafts, food vendors, non-profit agencies and sponsors. Entertainment is provided on several stages with live music, a free kids zone, a kids performance stage, strolling artists and art demonstrations. More than 30,000 visitors attend over the 2-day festival weekend in historic downtown Wilson. The festival is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and is held each year the first full weekend in November. Due to the pandemic, this year the festival has gone VIRTUAL!
