The North Carolina Fossil Festival celebrates the Aurora Fossil Museum and the rich fossil record of North Carolina. Join us for a family-friendly event steeped in tradition and good old-fashioned southern charm. Activities include digging for fossils, fossil displays, fossil auction, educational displays by partner nonprofit organizations, mining & engineering zone, parade, live entertainment, food, craft, & fossil vendors, dinosaur shows, foam party, and much, much more!

About the application

Are you a people person? Do you have an outgoing personality? Are you good at answering questions and handling boxes of shovels? Then help out in the Gift Shop! Gift Shop Volunteers Should: -- Welcome people entering the Main Building of the Aurora Fossil Museum and Outdoor Gift Shop -- Assist Museum Staff with handling Gift Shop items -- Market and sell NC Fossil Festival merchandise -- Encourage donations to the Aurora Fossil Museum -- Assist festival attendees with general festival & museum questions. We will have two Gift Shop locations: -- 400 Main Street (Inside the Main Museum Building) -- Fossil Park Picnic Shelter Volunteer Perks: 4+ hours: Receive a 2025 NC Fossil Festival Crew shirt! 6+ hours: Receive lunch on us and a 2025 NC Fossil Festival Crew shirt! 12+ hours: Receive lunch on us, a 2025 NC Fossil Festival Crew shirt, and a 2025 NC Fossil Festival shirt! 20+ hours: Receive all of the above, PLUS A 2025 NC FOSSIL FESTIVAL CHALLENGE COIN! Each volunteer slot is on a first-come, first-serve basis so sign up ASAP! To sign-up, please see below.

Terms & Conditions

Please read all the information below before beginning your application. As a volunteer, you are responsible for understanding all Terms and Conditions. You agree to all North Carolina Fossil Festival Terms and Conditions by submitting your application. -- Applying does not guarantee acceptance to help during the festival. -- Only applications submitted through this webpage will be accepted. -- Applications are due by 6 pm EST on May 17, 2025. -- Volunteers will be notified via email of the decision. -- Following the approval email, the approved volunteers will receive information regarding volunteer introduction training date and check-in locations. By submitting this application, I agree to hold the Aurora Fossil Museum Foundation, Inc., the Town of Aurora, and the North Carolina Fossil Festival harmless for any injury or loss to any person, equipment, property, or goods for any cause whatsoever. I also agree that the stated organizations cannot be held responsible for any claims for damage, injury, or loss arising from or in connection with and during the North Carolina Fossil Festival. Volunteers not adhering to the terms and conditions will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to participate in future North Carolina Fossil Festivals.
