The North Carolina Fossil Festival celebrates the Aurora Fossil Museum and the state's rich fossil record. Join us for a family-friendly event steeped in tradition and Southern charm. Activities include digging for fossils, fossil displays, fossil auction, educational displays by partner nonprofit organizations, mining & engineering zone, live entertainment, food, craft, & fossil vendors, dinosaur shows, kid zone, teen activities, and much, much more!

About the application

On Monday morning, the Aurora Fossil Museum will host a Veterans & First Responders Appreciation Breakfast for community members who have served and continue to serve our country and the Aurora Community. Veterans' & First Responders’ Crew will help with the following: -- Sunday afternoon preparation, including pre-breakfast setup and decorating of the Aurora Community Center for the Monday morning breakfast. -- Monday morning preparations and assistance with breakfast. -- Clean up and ensure all tables, chairs, decorations, and other related items are taken down. Volunteer Perks: 4+ hours: Receive an NC Fossil Festival Crew shirt! 6+ hours: Receive lunch on us and an NC Fossil Festival Crew shirt! 12+ hours: Receive lunch on us, an NC Fossil Festival Crew shirt, and an NC Fossil Festival shirt! 20+ hours: Receive all of the above, plus some sweet NCFF swag! Each volunteer slot is on a first-come, first-served basis, so sign up ASAP! To view shifts and sign up, please see below.

Please read all the information below before beginning your application. As a volunteer, you are responsible for understanding all Terms and Conditions. You agree to all North Carolina Fossil Festival Terms and Conditions by submitting your application. -- Applying does not guarantee acceptance to help during the festival. -- Only applications submitted through this webpage will be accepted. -- Applications are due by 6 pm EST on May 02, 2026 (so we can order shirts, food, and swag). -- Volunteers will be notified via email of the decision. -- Following the approval email, the approved volunteers will receive information regarding the volunteer introduction training date and check-in locations. By submitting this application, I agree to hold the Aurora Fossil Museum Foundation, Inc., the Town of Aurora, and the North Carolina Fossil Festival harmless for any injury or loss to any person, equipment, property, or goods for any cause whatsoever. I also agree that the stated organizations cannot be held responsible for any claims for damage, injury, or loss arising from or in connection with, or during, the North Carolina Fossil Festival. Volunteers who do not adhere to the terms and conditions will be asked to leave and will not be permitted to participate in future North Carolina Fossil Festivals.
