About the registration

Art installations are a cornerstone of the Know Other Festival experience. Transforming the landscape into a space of wonder, reflection, and connection. We invite artists to create immersive, interactive, or visual works that encourage attendees to engage, explore, and experience art in meaningful ways. 

 

Whether your installation sparks joy, inspires conversations, promotes healing, or simply creates a moment of awe; we welcome bold, inclusive, and creative concepts tat reflect the spirit of our community.  

 

Know Other Festival is a volunteer-led, community-built gathering created for LGBTQ+ women, trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive people. Over four days and three nights in nature, attendees come together for wellness workshops, special events, live performances, meaningful conversations, and opportunities for connection and self-discovery.

 

At KOF, we believe queer community deserves spaces beyond nightlife where people can rest, heal, celebrate, learn, and fully be themselves.

About the event

Know Other Festival is a four-day, three-night queer wellness and camping experience in Joshua Tree, California, created for LGBTQIA+ women, trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people. Through workshops, movement, music, art, and community connection, attendees are invited to rest, heal, celebrate, and show up authentically. The festival features queer-led programming, live performances, interactive experiences, and opportunities for meaningful connection in a welcoming and affirming environment. Know Other Festival is volunteer-led, self-funded, and rooted in the belief that queer joy, healing, and belonging deserve dedicated space to thrive. More than a festival, it's a community movement.

Terms & Conditions

Artist Expectations:
Perfomance Commitment

  • Selected artists are expected to be set and installed by the artist no later than April 15, 2027 from 11am until April 18, 2027 until 2 pm.  Placement will be determined by the final festival programming and site layout.
  • Artist is responsible for installation and strike, without any aid from the Know Other Festival Team. 
  • If Art requires power, the artist is responsible to inform the KOF Team prior to arrival and at time of first interview. Power can be rented at a cost or supplied by artist.
  • The structure needs to be stable (against wind and desert elements) and appropriate signs needed if it cannot be climbed.  
  • Art must be resistant to weather conditions that may occur during the festival.
  • If your art requires a flat and level service, please note that in the details and description of your piece.
  • Art to be removed from venue no later than 5pm on April 18, 2027.

Accommodations
Due to limited onsite lodging, Know Other Festival is unable to provide structured housing for artists. Artists are welcome to purchase upgraded accommodations if inventory remains available at the time of acceptance.

Honorariums & Reciprocity
Know Other Festival is a volunteer-led, community-fund event built with intention, heart, and reciprocity. While we are unable to guarantee placement for all applicants, we strive to honor the time, expertise, and contributions of our artists through a variety of reciprocal arrangements.

Selected talent will discuss compensation and participation details with a member of our Leadership Team. Honorariums, when offered, are provided at the discretion of KOF and may be valued up to $300.

Community Promotion
Artists are important ambassadors of the KOF community. Selected talent agree to participate in reasonable pre-festival promotional efforts, including sharing festival announcements, set information, and social media content.

A media kit, including graphics and suggested copy, will be provided by the Marketing Team approximately 30 days prior to the festival.

Technical Information
To ensure a successful festival experience, all artists must submit a diagram / proposal outlining any equipment, materials, or details of their installation.

Artists are responsible for providing any specialty equipment required for their installation unless otherwise approved in advance.
