HUMOROUS - THE ART OF LAUGHTER!

Laughter transcends boundaries, uniting diverse cultures, mending emotional scars, challenging societal norms, and illuminating life's ironies in surprising ways. In the realm of art, humor serves a purpose beyond simple amusement; it ignites dialogue, eases the weightiest subjects, and adds a touch of brightness to our world.

The Armory Art Center is excited to announce HUMOUROUS, a juried exhibition from Florida-based artists that honors the cleverness, satire, and whimsical absurdity found in visual art. We encourage artists to express their creativity through humor, whether it be through playful charm, sharp wit, or exaggerated hilarity, showcasing the many delightful dimensions of laughter.

Humor can shift perspectives and make tough topics easier to tackle, acting as a catalyst for change and resilience.

This is your chance to make the viewer laugh, think, and appreciate art in a new way!

INFORMATION + DATES

We encourage artists to explore dimensions of humor and its endless interpretations. No subject is too light, too quirky, or too bold! Whether you lean toward the whimsical, the ridiculous, or the thought-provoking all will be considered. 

Artists may explore the vast realm of humor and its myriad interpretations, including not limited to:

• Playful Portraiture & Character Caricatures: Exaggerate expressions, emphasize quirks, or create characters that capture the essence of humor through a simple glance or a raised eyebrow.
• Visual Puns & Wordplay: Play with double meanings, clever juxtapositions, and unexpected connections between objects, words, and concepts. A witty visual pun can be more powerful than a thousand words!
• Absurd & Surreal Humor: Defy logic. Create dreamlike scenes, illogical pairings, and wildly imaginative compositions that transport viewers into the bizarre and unexpected.
• Comics, Cartoons & Graphic Narratives: Tell a story through sequential art. Whether a single-panel gag or an elaborate comic strip, bring characters to life with a sense of humor that resonates.
• Everyday Life with a Twist: Reimagine daily routines, ordinary people, or familiar settings with an unexpected and comical surprise. Sometimes, the funniest moments are hidden in plain sight.
• Pop Culture & Nostalgia Parody: Reinterpret famous figures, iconic movies, internet trends, or beloved characters in a humorous light—bridging past and present through satire.
• Animal Antics & Playful Pets: From mischievous cats to dogs with guilty faces, capture the amusing side of animals and their interactions with the world around them.

Shipping | Artist is responsible for all shipping/delivery costs both ways. Include a return shipping label or we will not be able to return work.

AWARDS
For First, Second, and Third juried awards will be given. 

ENTRY FEE

$43.00 plus processing fee. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance of any pieces submitted.

ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to artists statewide, both amateur and professional 18 years old and up. 

RULES

• You may submit up to two (2) pieces to be considered.
• Your work will be judged individually. This jury type allows artists to submit up to two pieces to be considered. Jury has the option to select none of your work, one or both works.
• Work must be original work that is not copied or done in part or by any other artist.
• Open to ALL fine art mediums (oil, acrylic, water media, pastel, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, sculpture, fiber, wood, ceramics, digital art, etc. AI will not be accepted. Diptychs and triptychs should be uploaded as a single image.

SELECTION PROCESS

The show is curated by Armory Art Center Staff and is juried by Armory Art Center Staff along with an anonymous juror. Please note that jurors give no personal feedback.

MEDIA PREPARATION
Submit properly cropped images of your work that are in focus and high quality. Your work will be judged by the images submitted.

All images must be formatted correctly. Formatting requirements are listed in the submission packet. 

NOTIFICATION  
Notification will be sent by email. 

SALES
All artwork must be for sale. The Armory will handle all sales and provide a commission payment to each artist who sold work. All commission checks will be processed after the close of the exhibition. Artists will be asked to provide the Armory with a W-9 only if they sold artwork. You will be contacted if we need this information. The commission at the Armory is a 60/40 split: 60% to the Artist. 

GIVING BACK
If an artist would like to donate a portion or all of their commission from a sale to the Armory, they will receive a tax donation letter. 

REGULATIONS
By entering the Armory Art Center's call for art through Eventy, you are agreeing to be added to Armory's email list. By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, nothing copied, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist; our mission is to promote artists and their work. Should your work be accepted, you grant the Armory Art Center the right to reproduce your image on our website, on social media, and, where appropriate, to help promote our exhibitions. The Armory will always credit you and your copyright wherever feasible. We will not use your image for any other purpose without the artist’s permission.

EXHIBITION AGREEMENT
If any of your work is accepted into the exhibition, you agree to the Armory's exhibition policies.
