"Embracing the Hot Corner Spirit: A Time for Unity" 

Welcome to the Hot Corner Festival 2026! We are excited to announce that the festival will be a three-day event, culminating with the main festival celebration on June 13th!  We appreciate your interest and dedication to continuing your education. This is the Scholarship Application, intended for high school students who plan to attend college and are seeking financial support to further their academic goals.

This year at the festival, the Hot Corner Association will award three $500.00 dollar scholarships to high school students.  The scholarship is open to any high school senior who demonstrates a commitment to learning more about the Hot Corner era in Athens’ history and who is also able to attend the festival. The recipients will be judged upon essay responses to the following prompt:

Write about an African-American leader or event during the Hot Corner era who was instrumental in paving the way for your generation in Athens, GA. Include in the essay your career aspirations and your plans for reaching your goals. Write your essay in a way that demonstrates a deep understanding of the topic and historical context. Be sure to properly cite your sources.

Essays will be judged on content and grammar, containing at least 500 words.

The deadline for the 2026 application is April 1 at 11:59 pm. Submit you essay to hotcornerath@gmail.com.  The winner will be announced at the festival on June 13th, on the stage at 4 pm.  You must be present to win.

Please note, when completing the application put "N/A" for business name.

Scholarship Application Terms & Conditions
By submitting a Scholarship Application, applicants agree to the following terms and conditions set forth by the Hot Corner Association, LLC.

1. Eligibility
Applicants must be high school students who plan to attend a college, university, or technical institution. Eligibility requirements must be met by the stated deadline.

2. Application Submission
All scholarship applications must be completed and submitted by the specified deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

3. Selection Process
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on criteria established by the Scholarship Committee. All decisions are final.

4. Presence Requirement
Applicants must be present at the designated festival to be eligible to receive the scholarship award. Failure to be present at the time of announcement may result in forfeiture of the award unless prior approved by the Hot Corner Committee. 

5. College Acceptance & Enrollment Requirement
To receive the scholarship funds, selected recipients must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment at an college, university, or technical institution. Scholarship funds will not be released until documentation is verified.

6. Media Release
By accepting the scholarship, recipients grant permission to the Hot Corner Festival and Hot Corner Association, LLC to use their name, image, and likeness for promotional and recognition purposes without additional compensation.

7. Verification & Disqualification
The Festival reserves the right to verify all information submitted. Providing false or misleading information may result in disqualification or revocation of the scholarship award.

8. Right to Modify or Cancel
The Hot Corner Association, LLC reserves the right to modify scholarship terms, selection criteria, or award amounts, or to cancel the scholarship program if necessary.

By submitting an electronic application, applicants acknowledge that they have read, understand, and agree to these Terms & Conditions and accept this agreement electronically.
