Farmers markets must adhere to specific health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of both vendors and customers. Key practices include:
Hygiene and Food Handling: Vendors should wash hands frequently, use gloves when handling food, and maintain clean work surfaces. Proper attire, such as aprons and hairnets, is essential during food handling.  
Temperature Control: Keep perishable items at appropriate temperatures using coolers, ice, or refrigeration.  
Cross-Contamination Prevention: Separate raw and cooked foods and use clean utensils for each product.  
Packaging and Transportation: Use sanitary, food-safe containers for storage and display, and ensure food is transported safely from the farm or production site to the market.  
Labeling: Accurately display ingredients, allergens, and origin information.  
Inspection and Compliance: Schedule routine inspections and ensure vendors meet health standards.  

These guidelines help prevent contamination and illness, protect customers, and maintain the market's reputation. Vendors must also comply with local, state, and federal regulations to ensure legal and safe operations.
