Information & Rules
1. Scarecrows will be attached to the fence on the vacant lot in the center of Havana, corner of Hwy. 27 & 7th Ave. E. Merchants may display their scarecrow at their business.
2. SIGN UP here before 4:00 pm on Friday, 10/10, or by sending an email with your name, email address and contact phone number(s) to: Festivals.HavanaMainStreet@gmail.com.
3. Scarecrows should be assembled and delivered on the following dates/times. If you cannot deliver at one of these times, please TEXT Joy at 801-369-8995 to schedule a different time (you may call if you can’t text) and she will call you back. Volunteers will be on hand to position and connect your scarecrow to the fence with wire.

4. Scarecrows must be custom made; no commercial costumes are allowed.
5. The scarecrow must be moveable (25 lbs or less), have a base no more than a 2 feet x 2 feet wide and must be a minimum of 4 feet tall and a height no more than 7 feet tall. Scarecrow may be built on a stand. Scarecrow must be weatherproof in wind or rain. You may visit your scarecrow and tidy it up, as needed.
6. No perishable goods or glass may be used in construction or display.
7. Plastic bags make the best stuffing. Newspaper and water-soluble peanuts are not recommended because they do not hold up in wet weather.
8. No electricity is available.
9. All decorations and props must be firmly attached.
10. The Scarecrow Contest is family friendly and scarecrows should be whimsical, humorous, mischievous or loveable–NOT overly frightening (monsters, gruesome, bloody or especially scary entries will be disqualified.)
11. Scarecrows must be in good taste. Those that reflect controversial social or political situations will not be accepted.
12. Havana Main Street reserves the right to disqualify entries they feel to be distasteful or not family friendly.
13. You will be required to fill out a form when the scarecrow is dropped off, providing the following information: Your name, group/business name (if applicable), email address, phone number(s) and “scarecrow’s name” and sign a release statement. We will provide a sign with your scarecrow's name to be displayed with your entry.
14. You will be assigned a scarecrow number when you deliver your scarecrow.
15. All entries will be on display for PumpkinFest on Saturday, Oct. 11th.
16. Winners will be announced at 3:30 at the end of PumpkinFest.
17. When you bring your entry for setup you will be asked to sign a release form stating that if you do not pick your scarecrow up by 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 1st, you will forfeit the right to have your scarecrow returned and it will become the property of Havana Main Street. Havana Main Street has the right to dispose of leftover scarecrows at their discretion.
18. Each scarecrow entry will be given two complimentary passes for entry to PumpkinFest.
19. Voting Entries will be judged by the visiting public at PumpkinFest on Saturday October 11th. All ballots must be in designated boxes by 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 11th for the 3:30 drawing. Ballots will be available at Information tents onsite where visitors can view and vote for their favorite scarecrow.
20. Winners will be contacted by phone or email if they are not present at the drawing.
21. Entry Divisions: Children (12 and under), Young Adults (13-18), Adults (over 19), and Businesses/Organizations. Entries submitted in the “Children’s” category should be completed by the child/children 12 and under. Parent’s assistance should be minimal.
22. Ideas for decorating scarecrows (these are not categories):
· Traditional Harvest Figures: these scarecrows are typically old-fashioned figures constructed from “throw-a-ways” from home. Clothing, hay, stuffing, burlap, farm implements are a few ideas of the traditional scarecrow items.
· Humorous Scarecrows: these scarecrows should at a minimum evoke a smile!
· Celebrity Scarecrows: use your imagination! These can depict a modern-day celebrity or one from your past. Also, think high fashion, colorful, funky…
· Current events, storybook characters, cartoon characters, animals, or out-of-the-ordinary situations are just a few ideas.
23. Neither Havana Main Street nor any affiliation will be held responsible for any injury or damage associated with the PumpkinFest Scarecrow Contest.
24. It is understood that Havana Main Street may use the entries in published online, media and printed materials.
