Call for Art: "Kissed by the Sun" Traveling Exhibition - 3rd Year

Are you ready to showcase your talent to thousands? Join us for the third year of "Kissed by the Sun," a prestigious traveling art exhibition that celebrates the vibrant and diverse voices of black artists. This is an incredible opportunity to have your work displayed at major festivals and events throughout the year.

Entry Details:

Entry Fee: $50 per submission (nonrefundable)
Deadline: January 17th, 2025
Fee Includes: Printing your art on our 7ft by 3ft tension banners

Exhibition Highlights: Last year, "Kissed by the Sun" was seen by 60,000 people at events such as the Juneteenth celebration, Night Circus, FSU Homecoming, Marcus Doss Salon (hosted by celebrity hairstylist Marcus Doss), Artist Thr!ve annual conference, and the Working While Black Expo in Charlotte, hosted by Credit Karma.
Acceptable Art Forms: Digital art, photography, poetry, and prose
Note: iPhones can capture high-resolution photos suitable for submission if professional equipment is unavailable.

Important Information: By submitting, you grant Black Artist Forward the right to print and display your work on our banners. These prints remain the property of BAF and may be showcased at future events, providing ongoing exposure for your art.

Eligibility & Entry Fees:
This exhibition is open to all black* artists worldwide. You may enter three up to three pieces. 2D Visual art, poetry, songs, or any written works are eligible. Written works can be a maximum of 500 words. There is a $50 entry fee for each piece for all applicants. This covers printing. Artists who are financially unable to pay may request assistance by emailing us at info@blackartistforward.com.
 
*The term “black artists” includes the totality of the diaspora, and we welcome artists of mixed race.
 
Entry Procedure:
The Artist will pay their submission fees here and selected artists will receive an email with directions of where to send their files.
 
The following information is required for submission:
1. Name & e-mail.
2. Images:
•    File format: PNG or TIFF
•    File dimensions: No smaller than 3000 pixels on the longest side
•    File resolution: 300 ppi/dpi (high quality)
3. Each image must be titled as follows: “Title_YourFirstInitialandLastName”
4. A brief artist statement (50-300 words, maximum).
 
Permission And Copyright
By submitting an entry, the Artist grants permission for the Black Artist Forward to use the accepted image on its website(s), for brochures, promotional materials, and publicity about the exhibition, both physical and virtual. Every effort will be made to maintain quality true to the submitted image, recognizing that the print or electronic medium may affect how the viewer receives the image. The artist will be given attribution for the work.  The Artist hereby certifies that he or she holds the copyright for this material and the copyright remains with said Artist. The Artist also certifies that the work submitted is original and does not infringe on any existing copyright. If artwork includes the image of any person, the artist certifies that a model release for such people has been obtained.  Furthermore, if the accepted work differs dramatically from the image submitted, the Black Artist Forward reserves the right to return the work to the Artist without hanging in the exhibition.  By submitting work to this call, the Artist acknowledges and understands the above provisions and has read and agreed with the provisions in the Call for Entry.

Please note that while we strive to include the "Kissed by the Sun" exhibition in as many events as possible, we cannot guarantee the exact number of events or locations your work will be showcased. Additionally, in the event that a banner is damaged during the exhibition tour, it may not be displayed until it can be repaired or replaced. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to present your art to a wide audience.
