About the event

Mountain Makins is an Appalachian Folk Life Festival celebrating the unique culture of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Known for high quality crafts and artisans, the festival features a juried arts & crafts fair, top regional musical talent, storytellers, authors, craft demonstrations, and children's activities. All activities take place at historic Rose Center. Preview Party- Friday October 25 6:30 pm - 9 pm Festival Days- Saturday & Sunday October 26 & 27, 2024

About the application

This application is the first step towards participating in the 2024 Mountain Makins Festival. Do not use this application if you are a Food Vendor. Please review the following general information and follow all instructions. This is an electronic agreement and by selecting a booth, you are validating and approving this agreement electronically.
 
SET UP HOURS
Thursday, October 24. 9am-6pm
Friday, October 25. 9am-4pm
 
INSIDE BOOTH: $175
Inside booths are 80 square feet. Most are 8'x10'. Some may be another variation (9'x9'). 
If you would like to fill in areas between booths with your display and/or change table and chairs, you can do so for an extra charge of $2 per square foot. This extra area will be determined and charged during set up. NO EXCEPTIONS!

OUTSIDE BOOTH: $125 (Limited spaces available)
Outside booth spaces are 10'x10'. You must provide your own tent.

Outside booths are NOT open for the Friday night Preview Party.
 
YOUR BOOTH FEES WILL NOT BE CHARGED UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN SENT AN ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION.

Categories
Clay: Original clay and porcelain work, functional or sculptural.
Fiber: Includes wearable and non-wearable. No machine-tooled, machine-screen printing, or other forms of mass production are accepted.
Glass: Functional and sculptural work is accepted. Kiln forming, blowing, molding, or casting, as well as cold working processes are permitted. 
Jewelry: must be handmade and show the design and creativity of the maker
Mixed Media: Work which combines materials from two or more mediums in one piece.
Musical Instruments: Handmade instruments.
Natural Materials: This includes basket weaving, chair caning, brooms, gourds, and other works made from materials found in nature.
Photography: Includes traditional film photography, hand-colored images, emulsion transfers, and digital photography. Only artist’s original source material is acceptable.
Printmaking: Only hand-pulled original prints are allowed. Prints must be in limited editions, signed, and numbered.
Sculpture: Three-dimensional work using additive or subtractive processes in a single medium.
Two-Dimensional: Drawing, painting, and digital works. Reproduction prints are not allowed unless originals are for sale.
Wood: Original works that are hand tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved.

Terms & Conditions

This is a juried show. All applicants are juried every year.
Work should exhibit excellence in technique and concept, show imagination and the mark of individuality. All work must be original to and made by the exhibitor.The jury committee reserves the right to eliminate any item or booth that does not meet these criteria.
 
Please include the price of each item in your photos and list the price range of your work. (Field provided below) Submit the completed application via the online form below.
Please note: NONREFUNDABLE $25 application fee applies until June 1st. After the application fee will increase to $35
 
NOTE: Artists who share a booth must each apply separately.
 
Cancellation Policy: There will be a processing fee of $10 subtracted from all refunds for processing. 
Up to 90 days before the event: Full refund less $10 processing fee
60-60 days before the event: 50% refund less $10 processing fee
30-60 days before the event: 25% refund less $10 processing fee
30 days or less before the event: No Refund

Prices

Outdoor Booth $125
Application fees $25 Non-refundable There is a $25 non-refundable application fee which is charged upon application.
Indoor Booth $175 Indoor Booth's are 8x10 Additional Footage is 2$ per square foot No refunds within 30 days of the event.
Additional square foot of space, with approval $2 Please contact the festival director prior to selecting this option to make sure there is extra space available for you.
Electricity Use Fee $15 This fee entitles the vendor to one standard outlet.
Table $10 Non-refundable One six-foot table.
Indoor Booth Helper- Preview Party Ticket $10 Non-refundable Each artist is a guest of the Preview Party. This $10 ticket may be purchased for one booth helper or guest. Any additional tickets will be $35 each.
Regular Priced Preview Party tickets $35 Non-refundable Each artist is a guest at the Preview Party. Ticket for booth helper is $10. Any additional tickets are $35 each.

Picture requirements

  • Minimum pictures required: 5
  • Please upload 5 high quality photos: 4 of your work; 1 of your booth.You must also enter the title description and price in order to continue the application. Photos must include examples of ALL media intended for sale. Only submit photos representing what you will be selling. Photography suggestions: Jurors consider the quality of the photos as indicative of the quality of the artist's work. Provide sharp images! Display the object/s to be juried against a plain background, with the object/s taking up at least 75% of the photo.
