Get ready to show off your pup's Halloween style at Roanoke's annual Dog Costume Contest!
Join us on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 6:00–7:00 PM at Roanoke City Hall Plaza during Trick-or-Treat on Oak Street. Whether your four-legged friend is spooky, silly, adorable, or completely over-the-top, we want to see their best Halloween look! Dress to impress for a chance to win prizes provided by our generous contest sponsor!
Contest Categories:
- Best Overall Costume – Small Dogs (Under 25 lbs)
Awarded to the small dog with the most impressive overall costume. Judges will consider creativity, originality, costume details, and overall appearance.
- Best Overall Costume – Large Dogs (25 lbs and Over)
Awarded to the large dog with the most impressive overall costume. Judges will consider creativity, originality, costume details, and overall appearance.
- Best Halloween Spirit – All Dog Sizes
Celebrates the pup that best captures the fun and excitement of Halloween! Judges will look for festive flair, personality, and overall presentation. Coordinating costumes with owners are welcome but not required!
How It Works:
Each registered dog and handler will have the opportunity to show off their costume during a brief walk in front of our judges. After all contestants have participated, judges will select the winners, who will be announced during our awards presentation.
Registration & Important Information:
Registration is FREE, but space is limited! Advance registration is encouraged. On-site registration may be available if space permits. All dogs must remain on a leash at all times. Dogs exhibiting unruly or aggressive behavior may be disqualified from the competition. Costumes must be family-friendly and appropriate for an event with young children. Please avoid revealing, graphic, gory, or excessively frightening costumes. Spooky, silly, and creative costumes are welcome!
