Explore a painterly approach to screen printing in this unique Masterclass with Cat Prose. In this course, master printmaker Cat Prose will discuss a brief history of screen printing, introduce non-toxic materials, demonstrate a screen monotype process and explore each student’s themes. Artists should bring a variety of acrylic brushes, towels and (5) 8x 10 sketches of themes being explored. All other supplies will be provided. This workshop introduces participants to the creative possibilities of collage through a progressive series of small-scale projects exploring a range of techniques, approaches, and compositional strategies used in the artist’s body of work. Participants will experiment with layering, fragmentation, juxtaposition, abstraction, recontextualization, and other collage-based methods while developing their own visual language through play, experimentation, and reinterpretation of found imagery. Some activities may involve collaborative making processes that encourage shared experimentation and collective image-making. Participants are also encouraged to bring personal materials if they wish to incorporate them into their work.

Join us for an open studio session! June 14 | Demo by Jessica Cook with a model (female model) Working along with Jessica Cook? Plan to focus on short poses from 30 seconds to 15 minutes each. Then work on a longer, sustained pose for closer study of the figure and face. Jessica plans to work in charcoal and collage, but all mediums are welcome. July 26 August 30 | Demo by Jessica Cook with a model (male model) September 27 October 18 | Demo by Jessica Cook with a model (costumed model) November 15 December 13 | Demo by Larisa Anaya Artist members of the Georgetown Art Center can sign up for free, individual members or those who want a one-time trial membership may participate with a $10 drop-in fee.
