Scarecrows on Main 2026 – Participant Application

Join the City of Loganville for Scarecrows on Main 2026, a month-long community event that brings creative scarecrow displays to Downtown Loganville! Businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools and school groups, churches and faith-based organizations, civic and community groups, families, and individual community members with a Loganville address are invited to participate.

Participation is free, and each participant may submit one entry. Scarecrows will be displayed throughout Downtown Loganville and featured during fall community events, including the Back the Blue Car Show, Autumn Fest, and Trick or Treat on Main Street.

Participants will compete for People’s Choice and Mayor’s Choice awards, with winners announced at Autumn Fest on October 17, 2026.

Eligibility & Participation:
•    Scarecrows on Main is open to businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools and school groups, churches and faith-based organizations, civic groups, community organizations, families, and individual community members with a Loganville address.
•    Participation is free. Each participant, business, organization, family, or group may submit one entry.
•    An entry may include more than one scarecrow, provided the entire display fits within the assigned display area and complies with all size, safety, and placement requirements.

Scarecrow Locations & Placement:
•    The City of Loganville will assign display locations for participating entries.
•    Downtown businesses are encouraged to display their scarecrow in front of their business. Businesses wishing to do so must ensure that the display does not obstruct sidewalks, entrances, pedestrian access, accessibility routes, or other public areas.
•    Participants who do not have an approved business location in Downtown Loganville will receive a City-assigned display location.
•    The City reserves the right to make final placement decisions and to relocate a display when necessary for safety, accessibility, maintenance, or downtown event operations.

Size Requirements:
•    Each entry must fit within a maximum 4-foot-wide by 4-foot-deep display area and may not exceed 6 feet in height.
•    Entries may contain more than one scarecrow as long as the entire display remains within the designated space.

Construction & Safety:
•    Scarecrows must be handmade. Commercially purchased costumes, props, decorations, and accessories may be incorporated into the design; however, a commercially purchased scarecrow may not serve as the primary display.
•    All materials must be durable and securely attached to withstand normal outdoor weather conditions.
•    Scarecrows must be securely weighted or stabilized. Surface anchors such as sandbags or weighted bases may be used.
•    No stakes, spikes, or poles may be driven into the ground, concrete, sidewalks, or other hardscape.
•    Displays may not contain sharp or exposed edges, glass, hazardous materials, or other items that could create a safety hazard.
•    Loose hay or straw is not permitted. Hay or straw incorporated into a display must be securely contained to prevent excessive shedding.
•    Nothing may be attached to trees, benches, monuments, lampposts, signs, or other City property unless specifically approved by the City.

Props, Perishable & Living Materials:
•    Props such as corn stalks, artificial pumpkins, hay bales, benches, bicycles, wagons, baskets, and seasonal decorations may be incorporated into displays as long as they remain within the assigned space and comply with all program requirements.
•    Cut pumpkins are not permitted. Whole pumpkins may be used; however, participants are responsible for replacing or removing pumpkins or other materials that become spoiled, damaged, or unsightly.
•    Artificial pumpkins and other weather-resistant materials are encouraged.
•    Live plants may be used but must be maintained by the participant.
•    Participants are responsible for replacing or removing any materials that become damaged, spoiled, or unsightly during the display period.

Lighting:
•    Battery-operated and solar-powered lights are permitted.
•    Access to City electrical outlets will not be provided.

Content & Appearance:
•    Scarecrow displays should be creative, festive, and appropriate for a family-friendly community event.
•    Displays must be in good taste and may not be gruesome, bloody, excessively frightening, obscene, discriminatory, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate for public viewing.
•    Political campaign signs, election-related messaging, political endorsements, partisan campaign materials, and displays reflecting controversial political or social situations are prohibited.
•    The City of Loganville reserves the right to deny entry or require modification or removal of any display that it determines to be offensive, inappropriate, unsafe, or inconsistent with the family-friendly nature of Scarecrows on Main.

Installation:
•    The Scarecrows on Main installation period will be September 25 through October 1, 2026.
•    October 1, 2026, is the final installation day. All displays must be fully installed, secured, and ready for display by the end of the day.
•    Participants are responsible for transporting, installing, and securing their own display.
•    Participants must follow all location and installation instructions provided by the City.

Maintenance:
•    The City of Loganville is not responsible for maintaining individual scarecrow displays.
•    Participants are responsible for inspecting and maintaining their scarecrow throughout the month of October. Participants should periodically check their display and make any necessary repairs or replacements due to weather, wind, rain, vandalism, normal wear, or other causes.
•    Displays must remain presentable throughout the entire display period.
•    Failure to properly maintain a scarecrow may result in disqualification from the contest and/or removal of the display by the City.
•    If a display becomes unsafe, substantially damaged, obstructs pedestrian access, or creates another public safety or maintenance concern, the City reserves the right to remove the display.

Voting & Judging:
•    You are the judges!
•    The People's Choice winner will be selected through community voting on the City of Loganville Events Facebook page. Photos of all eligible entries will be posted by 5:00 PM on October 2, 2026. Friends, family, and community members may vote for their favorite entry by liking its official photo. Voting will close at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
•    The entry receiving the most Likes at the close of voting will be named the People's Choice Winner. In addition to the People's Choice Award, a Mayor's Choice Award will be selected by the Mayor of Loganville.
•    The People's Choice and Mayor's Choice winners will be announced at Autumn Fest on October 17, 2026, and the winners will also be shared on the City of Loganville Events Facebook page following the announcement.

Display Period:
•    Scarecrows will be displayed throughout Downtown Loganville during the month of October.
•    Participants understand that their scarecrow will be located outdoors in a public area and may be exposed to weather and normal wear and tear.

Removal & Cleanup:
•    Participants may begin removing their scarecrow displays on November 1, 2026.
•    All scarecrows, props, decorations, signs, weights, straw/hay, and other display materials must be completely removed no later than November 7, 2026.
•    Participants are responsible for leaving their assigned area clean and orderly.
•    City-owned trash cans or dumpsters and private merchant dumpsters may not be used for disposal of display materials.
•    Any display remaining after the November 7 deadline may be removed and disposed of by the City. Scarecrow displays and materials remaining after the deadline will become property of the City of Loganville and will be subject to a $100 disposal fee.

Damage, Loss & Liability:
•    Participants are responsible for the construction, transportation, installation, maintenance, and removal of their display.
•    The City of Loganville is not responsible for lost, stolen, vandalized, weather-damaged, or otherwise damaged scarecrows, decorations, props, or other personal property.
•    Participants understand that their display will be located outdoors in a public area and may be exposed to weather, vandalism, theft, and normal wear and tear.
•    Participants are responsible for ensuring that their display is constructed and maintained in a manner that does not create a hazard to pedestrians, businesses, City property, or other persons.

City Rights:
•    The City of Loganville reserves the right to interpret and enforce these Terms & Conditions and to make reasonable changes to display locations, installation procedures, or other program details when necessary for safety, accessibility, weather, event operations, or other municipal needs.
•    The City reserves the right to remove or relocate a display that violates these Terms & Conditions, becomes unsafe, obstructs access, damages public property, is not properly maintained, or is otherwise determined to be inappropriate for the program.

Participant Agreement:
•    By submitting an application to Scarecrows on Main 2026, the participant acknowledges that they have read, understand, and agree to follow all Terms & Conditions and program requirements. Failure to comply with the Terms & Conditions may result in disqualification from the contest, removal of the display, and/or ineligibility to participate in future Scarecrows on Main programs.
